    Kevin Ellison back with Chargers

Posted by Michael David Smith on June 8, 2010 12:02 PM ET
Chargers safety Kevin Ellison is back to work with the team after being told to stay away following his arrest on drug charges.

Ellison was busted with 100 Vicodin pills in May, leading to the Chargers expressing disappointment and tell him to stay away from the team.

But the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Ellison has been at the team's facility and is expected to participate in today's organized team activities.

Ellison played in 13 games last season after the Chargers took him in the sixth round of the draft.

Was he passing out chill pills to VJ, Merriman, and McNeill?

Since when is having a prescription drug in the car a bad thing? Did they ever specify if it was sorted for distribution?

I think it will just wind up with Ellison paying a $500 fine and possibly traffic school for speeding.

The Vicodin issue is looking like it's a non-starter. It's entirely possible to have a hundred of those in your possession without doing anything illegal. It was just about 100 pills in several large vials in the glove compartment.

Now, if he had thousands, in a big bag in the trunk, then that would be different.

Buried in the news that the Chargers and top players Vincent Jackson and Marcus McNeill may play some hardball this summer is the news that safety Kevin Ellison is back with the club.

Ellison was arrested last month after being allegedly caught with 100 vicodin pills. The team expressed disappointment with Ellison after the arrest and he was told to stay away from the team’s minicamp.

The fact that he is back means the team has perhaps softened its stance on the second-year pro. He finished the season as the starter.

Still, if Ellison is kept on the roster, he will have to fight fourth-round pick Darrell Stuckey and veteran Steve Gregory for playing time.

Line them up three deep that's what I always say...

I mean that's what AJ always says... :abq2:

    Bolts' Ellison silent upon return

By Kevin Acee, UNION-TRIBUNE STAFF WRITER

Kevin Ellison was back at practice, working at strong safety with the first team and doing it well.
After being asked not to attend minicamp so as not to be a distraction two days after an arrest for possessing 100 Vicodin pills, Ellison was at Chargers Park on Tuesday as the team resumed its offseason coaching sessions.
Through the team, Ellison declined to comment until his legal issues are resolved. He has a July 7 date in Torrance Superior Court stemming from his May 25 arrest after a traffic stop.
Ellison’s status with the team is up in the air, as much for their decision to move on by drafting Darrell Stuckey as for the arrest. But working as a starter Tuesday, Ellison made plays and looked no worse for his layoff.
