Tomlinson surpassed Alworth's record of 9,721 yards late in the second quarter on a drive he capped with a 6-yard scoring run. That gave him 20 TDs this year, breaking out of a tie with Chuck Muncie, who scored 19 touchdowns in 1981.

Tomlinson hadn't scored in four games, matching the longest drought of his five-year career.

The Chargers trailed 14-7 at halftime, and lost quarterback Drew Brees to a shoulder injury. He was replaced by Philip Rivers.
