One #Chargers player not participating in OTA position drills: Larry English. Working on side with team trainers. Moving around well.

I dont even care if the injury is insignificant. "Injury Prone" is an understatement at this point :(

No answer yet, but I posed the question... is he working on the sidelines as a precaution (since it's the first OTA and he's coming back from injury last year) or is this a new injury?

I'm gonna try and be optimistic and hope it's not more problems with his glass foot. *fingerscrossed*

On the one hand, I really hope he turns it around and becomes an upper echelon player. On the other hand, I wonder if the team wouldn't be better off cutting him and giving his reps to someone else.

Like who? It's a little early to be concerned with cutting guys.

We already cut LaBoy, there's no sense in cutting English now because he has a groin strain.

Absolutely true. However, if he's injured again before we've hit week three and is IRd, then cutting him now would help our other guys be better players, assuming we have good coaches.

If it continues to be a problem, sure....... but we just started OTA's. I also doubt that one guy rehabbing a groin is taking away anyone's reps.

IMO the injury is superfluous. I just don't think he has the chops. Backup material at best.

Ok so maybe the guy is the unluckiest guy in the world. Or maybe he is truly brittle or maybe he does not condition himself properly or maybe the conditioning advice/coaching he is getting from our trainers is sh1t or maybe he's softer than your normal NFL player who might suck it up and play thru it and not let anybody know about it..........................

I truly hope that this is just a bump in the rd, that his foot is 100% and he gets a chance to show us what he can do when fully healthy. If he can't do this before September 1 hasta luego el Busto.

Him getting injured was bound to happen. At least it happening early will hopefully eliminate them wasting a roster spot on him and letting a player we can use go to another team

Hey if he can suit up and play on opening day, and make an impact throughout the year, that is all that matters to me. I couldnt care less if he pulled his groin in Off Season work outs...

    Mountains outa mole hills IMHO.

I'm not worried about him being injured during OTAs. I'm concerned about him being kept on the roster through TC while other players are cut if he's injured in TC, and continues to be injured during the season, which I believe was his situation in 2009/2010.

Is his injury an issue now? No, other than the impact to him of missing reps. His being injured would however begin to affect other players come August, if he can't get/stay healthy by then.

The only thing I am worried about him getting hurt during OTA's is he got hurt during non contact drills, where you are not going all out.

Secondly, Yesterday Norv had the players focusing more on the mental part of the game rather than physical part. Sure hope Larry didn't suffer a migraine thinking too ;)

English returns to field for drills

It's only May, and it's just OTAs, and it's all voluntary attendance.

But when it involves Larry English and health, no matter the severity, it gets attention.

The Chargers outside linebacker participated in position drills Wednesday after sitting out the day prior. On Tuesday, he worked to the side with athletic trainers, rehabbing a groin injury suffered early last week.

English's goal is to be at full strength come training camp and start the 2012 season on a fresh foot, and however unhelpful, the minor ailment that held him out Tuesday is not expected to derail those efforts.

Coach Norv Turner said Tuesday that English has "been going great" in the team's offseason workout program.

The 2009 first-round draft pick missed 19 games the past two seasons with a foot injury. Chargers defensive coordinator John Pagano "always" sees positive signs in English, he said recently.

"I never give up," Pagano added.

After linebacker drills, English took mental reps during 11-on-11s. Shaun Phillips, Jarret Johnson, Antwan Barnes and Melvin Ingram saw most of the action at outside linebacker.

The Chargers wrap up their first week of OTAs on Thursday.

Have you ever noticed how most groin and hamstring injuries are NON CONTACT injuries?

Hamstrings and Groins are bound to take place when a player returns after a long period of time missed. The last time this guy took snaps was in September. Things like this happen all the time in every sport..

Not worried.. Hopefully and I do believe he will be an impact player.

The last time any of our players took snaps was January, which is also a long rest period. I'm curious what kind of rehab/conditioning English was doing this past season/offseason...
