I didn't see a lot of the game today, but I did see most of the third and a little bit of the fourth. And he looked good. He swatted that pass down, was getting in the face of the QB, making some tackles. And I was thinking, you know, at this point in Merrimen's career he was still mainly a specail team player (I think he hurt his knee on kick off coverage).

I think English is showing promise. Things are already slowing down for him. I am excited for the kid and our defense.

    that's it.

He played pretty good for a rookie seeing lots of action in his 3rd pro game.

He played much better than last week. It was also good to see Merriman giving him feedback throughout the game.

Alfonso Boone also had one decent pass deflection/knockdown too.

Not bad, considering he's only been with the team for a week, and been riding the bench last year.

It was totally heartening to see these newer guys making plays. English, Boone and Nwagbuo all made very real contributions yesterday and helped us win the game.

    AJ is gawd. :bolt:

He had a great game, he had that sack if there weren't a false start call.

I really felt towards the end of the game he was getting comfortable being in there, making his reads, reacting well, being physical, ect.

IMO that's the biggest hurdle to overcome for a rookie: relax and go play.

I was 99.97% sure he was going to fling the QB to the ground and get a 15 yard penalty

15 yards sucks, but it's good to let the QB know you can hurt them.

On the CMB, there were a few idiots were were already complaining about English after just two freaking games in his rookie season.

They wanted him to have something like 4 sacks, 5 QB knockdowns, several pass defenses, and an INT, or some near unachievable garbage, after just two games.

Geez, DeMarcus Ware doesn't even have a single sack this season, and 3 PD. Yet those idiots expected English to be outperforming Ware and Freeney already. :icon_rofl:

One butt hurt USC fan was still complaining about how AJ didn't chose Rey Rey.

I was with ya until the last statement. AJ is good, but he ain't no gawd. If he was, we wouldn't be having these trench issues.

Same here. Looked like he was getting comfortable. He's being asked to stand up & cover. Regardless of how athletic he may be, this is a big switch for college guys like him. I see it starting to click. Every rep helps.

Idiots was the key word here. Rey Rey got carted out yesterday - I'm sorry for him, that wasn't a shot. Just saying ..... he's not the next Junior .....

We need attitude in the middle, especially with RR as DC. I still am looking for the creative, but I'll always view him as 4-3 first. Unless Shawne becomes an true ML, which
    I think he can be,
    otherwise he's likely outta here.

SM could be RAY LEWIS in SD. Think about it. It could lead to years of good things. English can make a great strong-side backer. SM? Nobody can deny his first step when he's free to work.

We have a very good start on a 4-3 front. The time to start phasing it in has come.

Hard to say, I can never really tell unless I rewind it. I think every time OG was in there it was 3-4 though. I thought I saw 4 linebackers in at most times.

And I think everytime Castillo blew up a play it was 3-4. He had a good game and was in the backfield more than a couple of times.

Both. I'd say about 1/3 34, 1/3 43, 1/3 something else. At the end we were in alot of nickle and dime packages since they were basically in the pass panic mode.

just to help me recognize 4-3, who is on the front? Is it castillo, cesaire, boone, and martin? OG isn't really in there in 4-3 right?

I just count the linebackers. After a bit you learn their numbers.

If English or Phillips has their hand on the ground, isn't he really a DE?
