Lawrence Okoye impresses at Regional Combine
The NFL Super Regional Combine at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas is hosting 219 players hoping to catch the eye of talent evaluators on Sunday and Monday.

One unique prospect already has stood out to NFL.com's Gil Brandt. Defensive end Lawrence Okoye, the 21-year-old British discus record-holder, was "unbelievably active and incredibly explosive" in drills, according to Brandt.

At nearly 6-foot-6 and 304 pounds, Okoye ran the 40-yard dash in 4.88 and 4.78 seconds while posting a 10-foot-5 broad jump and a 35-inch vertical jump in a "real, first-class show." Brandt called him the class of the defensive linemen in attendance Sunday.

Okoye reportedly turned down an offer to attend the prestigious Oxford University to try out for the NFL. Although Okoye originally expected to sign with a team after the 2013 NFL Draft, Brandt now believes the 2012 Olympian could be drafted.

Also an accomplished rugby player, Okoye recently said five NFL teams have shown interest in him. After Sunday's impressive performance, that number figures to rise.

I wouldn't spend a draft pick on him, but hell I'd sign him the second the last team makes their pick. 6-6, 300 lbs and ran a 4.78. Wow.

Yes, atleast Vaughn Martin had a few years of football experience, this guy Lawrence Okoye has never played the game.

A couple years of Canadian college football isn't much better, frankly. :D

    :roflmao:

That's fair to say! But in all honesty, Vaughn Martin still knew how to line up, knew some terminology, etc.

Okoye is just a Olympian discus thrower who has freakish height, strength, and speed. I think he'd be definitely worth the wait.

If a round or two of drinks is involved in the deal, take him.

Amazing to see the overseas guys making it to the NFL. Hayden Smith is an ex rugby player trying his hand at TE for the Jets, he caught his first pass against us if memory serves. We've also got Menelik Watson and that beast Margus Hunt coming in this year. Great to see.

Well he's only been in the league for one year, and has already had to deal with multiple changes within the organization over in NY.

At least in SD, looks like we will have stability, and could develop the kid. May take a year or two before he sees action, but I'd think it'd be worth the wait.
