Stanford Routt felt the Raiders love Wednesday despite starting only one game last year.

Middle linebacker Kirk Morrison, who has led the team in tackles for five straight seasons, was not so lucky. Adam Schefter reports the team extended an "original pick" tender to Morrison, meaning any interested team would only have to give up a third-rounder if they signed him away.

Make no mistake, the Raiders would love for that to happen.

Morrison is due $2.5 million next season and would have made the exact same money if he got the second round tender. (It's explained well here.)

Essentially, the Raiders placed a lower tender on him despite no financial savings. They wanted to create the highest chance for a trade and knew no one would give up a second-round pick for Morrison.

Morrison could get an offer sheet, and then everyone's happy. If not, he'll have to return to a team he knows didn't want him.

I would rather use our 3rd on a proven impact player instead of taking a gamble on an unproven rookie like LeGarrette Blount.

the only issue i have for getting him is where are we going to put him? All four LBs are returning next year and we'd have a fifth that'd be walking after 2010.

Pity that tag isn't on Michael Bush

That is an easy one, you put Cooper where he belongs, on the bench

I know it would be trading from within the division, but how about Morrison for Cro straight up?

Why trade .. you are giving up a 3rd round pick for him .. For a proven player, it doesn't seem like a bad deal. We'll probably get at least a 3rd back for Cromartie and chances are it will be further up in the round at the very least.

Reports are, most teams aren't willing to even give up a 3rd for Cro right now. Tomorrow will be very telling, as FA opens up.

Also, if I understand the rule correctly, any team with a higher pick would have priority over us if they offered Morrison the same contract. So we could by pass any other team by just working out a deal with Oakland

    Cut Cooper.

    Trade Cromartie for Morrison.

Let the Raiders sign him to a 7-year, $70M deal.

Watch Cro get cut midseason after being exposed as a bum.

Redskins sign him 2 games before the playoffs.

If we get Morrison for a third rounder then similar to what is the deal with Cromartie, we have to sign him long term. I'm not against that but until we clear some room on the ILB line (yes possibly getting rid of Cooper) we can't acquire Morrison
