I just wanted to go on record and trademark my nickname for Mr. Rivera. Please add the little "TM" when using it.

    Thanks,

I'm bumping this, but I'm also using it as a platform for conveying my prediction that Norv will be fired when the Chargers miss the playoffs.

It starts with a loss Thursday night to the Raiders.

This team is near the bottom. COME ON REBOUND!!! :bolt:

...I'm not sure about Rivera but who ever is sure about any of these guys with ZERO head coaching experience. I will say one thing about Ron...I have a good feeling about him. I think he'll bring back parts of Bobby Ross and his ATTENTION TO DETAIL. I was always curious about something he said during his interview with management when he was brought in for a look 2 years ago. He said that they'd absolutely love who he had in mind as an offensive coordinator. I wonder who that was? Mike Martz, Ron Turner? I was always curious..anyone ever find out who he was talking about?

I don't know who his coordinator choices would be, but I have a good feeling about him, too. If he turned out as good for us as Boss Ross, the feelings here would quickly turn. Singletary is gonna get good things done in SF. I believe that Rivera would bring a similar mind-set regarding discipline, focus, & a no nonsense attitude.

I'm gonna dig around a little to see who he likes for coordinators. I know it's early to be thinking like Norv is gone, but a fan can dream ......

    Anyone catch this?

    http://www.bolthype.com/2008/11/bolthype-chats-with-coach-ron-rivera.html

Will Ron Rivera be in San Diego next season?

“Absolutely and I’m looking forward to it. I like my situation with the current circumstances. The question is, hopefully the club will have me.”
    -----------------------------------
Could there actually be some sort of succession plan?

AJ did say the head coaching situation has already been addressed.

Rivera as a DC, sure why not.

Rivera has the HC, only if we can Norv before the end of the season. Personally, I would like to see what Ron can do to build a little fire in this team. If we wait until the offseason, I would think that there would be a handful of more qualified people available.

In summary, Ron is the shiniest turd when compared to Norv.

If the plan really is to fire Norv, do it now - right after the Bucs game (Don't give Faiders the satisfaction of knowing they bumped Norv) because we probably are going to beat the Raiders but then lose to the Bucs and therefore be "mathematically eliminated" from the playoffs. Firing him now means we can install Rivera as HC and give him a little room to work in his first season as a HC without worrying about the consequences and start grooming him in the offseason. Now, with Rivera at HC, AJ might try to gain more control. I could easily see him picking up a mindset like:

This kid doesn't know anything and I'm a veteran GM; I'm gonna make the decisions around here.

Well, by Friday morning we may very well be officially eliminated from playoff contention. So there will be no need to retain Norv, as his performance will absolutely justify his firing.

Yes. Like when we hit bottom, there is going to be a rebound.

Bottom is losing to the Raiders and/or officially being eliminated from the playoffs.

Rivera is here as AJ's CYA plan. I think most of us could see that when he was hired. Why else would a DC who went to the SB & was being interviewed for HC positions come to SD as a position coach? :icon_shrug:

I ALMOST hope that we lose out, just to hopefully ensure that Norv gets the boot. I would like to beat Oakland. Oh yeah .... and Denver. :icon_evil:

Hopefully AJ might learn something from this whole experience. I really don't see Rivera agreeing to a deal where he's cuckolded by the GM. I think he has more balls than that.

    Not this year, anyway.

Question... Is Rivera as hot of a commodity for HC as we think?
Nobody gave him that offer after his Super Bowl year with the Bears.

    Promote Rivera.

Keep Shelmon as OC and hand him play calling duties.

Find a DC or promote one of the assistants and Rivera can lend a hand if needed.

Fans are throwing red flags, but Turner status won't be reviewed

    Tim Sullivan

    Wednesday, December 3, 2008

The head coach has been addressed. End of story. Close of subject.

Chargers General Manager A.J. Smith's abrupt answers to pointed questions about Norv Turner may not be what you want to hear, but they're about all you're likely to get.

Smith is under no legal obligation to justify his decision to retain his coach, much less to have it ratified through public referendum, so the mob clamoring for Turner's scalp is advised to disperse.

There's nothing to see here. Not now, at least. So you might as well move along until the season ends, until it bottoms out, or both.

A loss to the Raiders would signal the "bottom", wouldn't it?

That would fit in with the end of the world scenario. I will keep objects way from my proximity while watching that game so I do not throw one thru the plasma.....
