    THANK GOD!

Everytime he walked onto the field I was terrified he'd take a hit, get knocked out and never get back up.

Jets are going to cut Lav. Coles.

In his time, one of the more elite WR.

    Browns | Shaffer released
    Thu, 12 Mar 2009 14:51:51 -0700

Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports the Cleveland Browns have released OT Kevin Shaffer.

I've only seen him play a few times but I think he's a pretty good RT. Certainly an upgrade over Clary.

Ant, can you please post a Scouts Inc. report on him.

Syd... do you think granny will sign a cap friendly contract with AJ? You're right- RT is a real soft spot on the team... and now RG too.

    Here's Shaffer

2008 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc.
    Grade: 66 | Key
    Alert: None

Comment: Shaffer was signed two years ago to be Cleveland's starting left tackle. That experiment failed and after Joe Thomas was drafted, Shaffer moved to the right side, which clearly fits him much better. Shaffer is very strong and has the size and skill set needed to best play on the right side. On the left side, his athletic ability was exposed, but he has performed admirably on the right side because he doesn't have to consistently face elite speed-rushers. Shaffer also greatly benefited from the emergence of Thomas at left tackle because the Browns are able to give him help, if he is overmanned. He isn't very nimble or fluid, but does work hard. His pad level is a problem and he lacks the ability to consistently play the game low. He is a powerful man and pushes defensive linemen backwards as a power blocker. He is a thumper who plays to the whistle and is bright enough to get the most out of his physical abilities. There isn't much upside here, but Shaffer is certainly good enough to win with, especially with an elite talent like Thomas on the other side.

Not sure if that's really what I want on the right side unless I can't get anything better in the draft

Thanks, for some reason I thought he was better then that. Like you said better off just drafting someone over him.

    From ESPN's AFC West Blog

Meanwhile, a reader wondered if the Chargers could be interested in right tackle Kevin Shaffer, who was cut by Cleveland. It makes perfect sense. Shaffer played for San Diego assistants Mike Sullivan and Jeff Chudzinski in Cleveland, the Chargers could use a right tackle and he'd be fairly inexpensive. Yes, it is something worth monitoring.

Again I think there's a possibility, I forgot about the two Clevelanda assistants now in San Diego. I think the team will see what's available in the draft (I think we all want someone like Oher to be at 16) but if he's not Shaffer might be a good short term fill in. I'd probably be content with (at worst case) Shaeffer at RT, Shelton backing both sides and Clary either gone or a general backup (what he's best at)
