    Lots of tickets left

By Kevin Acee September 15, 2009

About 48 hours from the deadline to sell out or face a television blackout, the Chargers have reported to the NFL they have about 2,500 tickets remaining for Sunday's home opener against the Baltimore Ravens.

The Chargers could ask for a 24-hour extension (to Friday at 1 p.m.), especially since they have a short week after Monday's game. But they would need to have a realistic chance of selling out.

A company (such as Channel 8, which is supposed to show the game) could step forward to buy the remaining tickets, as has happened in the past. The Chargers would likely need to sell at least 1,500 of those tickets that remain now for that to have a chance of happening.

They'll ask for the extension & get it. Channel 8 and others will buy up the remaining tickets.

This past weekend, ESPN reported that Arizona sold out their first game right before the blackout deadline.

The thing that compounds a blackout is that the station doesn't replace that local team home game with another one. They just either air other programming or a message on the screen about a blackout.

At least switch to another NFL game! :icon_evil:

No chance of a blackout. I don't really think there will be a chance for the Miami game either, but I guess its possible. If you want a ticket for this Sunday see my thread in the tickets section.

What happens to the tickets that companies buy out? They give them away? raffle? employees?

Usually they are donated to the military, schools and other organizations.

If they ask for an extension, I think that typically means they are working out a way of distributing those tickets after they are purchased.

There are only about 1000 seats left. Expect KFMB to buy all those up. That would be about $80,000. They can make triple the amount in ad revenue.
