It's not a surprise, but it's stil news.

LaDainian Tomlinson will miss his second straight game due to the ankle sprain he suffered in the season opener.

Also as expected, it appears right guard Louis Vasquez will miss a second game with a sprained knee.

One new injury popped up mid-practice, as inside linebacker Kevin Burnett injured his knee in a collision with receiver Buster Davis.

The Chargers were not clear on the nature and extent of the injury but listed him as questionable for Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins.

Linebacker Antwan Applewhite (hamstring) was also listed as doubtful.

Shawne Merriman practiced fully and was moving well. He is listed as questionable.

As expected, Shawne Merriman is participating in practice while LaDainian Tomlinson and Louis Vasquez are not.

That will almost certainly be the case Sunday against the Dolphins as well.

Brandon Siler and Kevin Ellison are back on the field after a bout of the flu that is going around the team.

It appeared everyone else (except Travis Johnson, whose groin strain will keep him out at least another week) was practicing.

Maybe Buster is a jinx...let's put him in with the Dolphins gear for a nice long flight to Miami..in the baggage compartment.

But seriously, back on topic...Using Bennett as the "featured back" (..by featured back, I mean the back that takes more than 50% of the snaps in the ground game) right now is the way to go for the following reasons:
    1) Minimize wear and tear on Sproles, he will run faster if he isn't all beat up from too many carries
    2) Administer a little punishment to the defenders, wear them down.
    3) Our backup O-linemen can learn to run block without getting LT or Sproles killed

If we can run enough to keep the Dolphins defense honest, we have a good shot at beating them. I am OK with LT sitting for now, but I want to see him healthy at the end of the season when we could really use him.

I agree it makes sense to keep the wear and tear from from Sproles as he is a valuble weapon.

According to Burnett who was on talk radio this afternoon, he laughed off the injury, said it was just he and Davis bumping into each other on a play. Nothing serious, he fully expects to be starting come Sunday. People have to lay off the panic switch around here.

Nobody would trade for Buster, unless it was in a package deal.

I'm saying this now, I BELIEVE A.J. will make a trade this year for a key player to help us. O-Line, or D-Line. I can feel it.

Even if it's a vetern who only has 2 years left in the tank, but can really help us. Why not do it. We can't let 2009, and 2010 go to waste with an early exits from the playoffs.

    Davis odd man out

Buster Davis, the team's first-round pick in 2007, has yet to see the field in 2009. And despite the fact he is finally healthy, Davis might not be active on game day for a while.

“It's difficult right now,” Turner said. “We have five receivers up. And not only do we have five receivers up, but three of them contribute a great deal on special teams — Malcom (Floyd), (Legedu Naanee) and Kassim (Osgood) — It's going to take some type of injury probably.”

Davis has played in just 22 regular-season games. He spent the final half of 2008 on injured reserve.
