Tomlinson says he won't be back with Bolts

LaDainian Tomlinson knows he has played his last game as a Charger.

“I’m not coming back,” Tomlinson told The San Diego Union-Tribune on Thursday. “I don’t believe I’ll be back in San Diego. I’ve accepted it.”

After more than a month of saying he did not know what would happen, Tomlinson said he has believed for a while he would be let go by the Chargers.

“I’ve been praying and meditating,” he said. “After doing that for a couple weeks, I just felt like it was over.”

Tomlinson has two years remaining on his contract, but he is due a $2 million roster bonus March 5 and would be paid $5 million in total salary in 2010. As part of the renegotiated contract he signed last March, he is guaranteed $1 million by the Chargers for next season.

Speaking by phone, Tomlinson paused a lot as he spoke of his future and of his past.

“It’s a mixed feeling,” said Tomlinson, the league MVP in 2006. “It’s mixed emotions. I’ve spent nine years of my life here, pretty much my youth. I gave the organization everything I have. I enjoyed the community.

“But there is a part I won’t miss. The football part is fun. But the business part sucks. I won’t miss that.”

Tomlinson said he doesn’t know when the Chargers will release him. He said his agent might call the club to expedite the process.

I don't care wether people think this is a good or bad thing, but one things is for damn sure...its a sad day for the Chargers:no::unsure:

If we had to pick a running back to head into next season with (not taking into account any preseason form and training) between LT and one of the backs in the draft...who would you pick??

I'd pick LT... cos of his experience and attitude and the fact that he can still do most things to a high level...you know what your getting with LT...we don't know what we got with the others!

If our next running back hire has a worse year than Tomlinson (I admit that would be hard) than won't this just put us back a step again??! That will be another high draft pick to spend on the same position next year

Thanks LT for everything. But why the hell do you have to go out bad mouthing the team like you have this past week? And whats so wrong about taking a pay cut and a reduced role to help win a Super Bowl here in SD?

I wish you good luck wherever you end up and hope you enjoy watching the Bolts winning a Championship without you.

this really tugs at my heart strings, but it IS a business. i have nothing but love for LT and i would expect nothing less than a standing ovation for him if he were to come back to san diego in a different uniform.

I thought the same thing, until I read that both parties said that there would not be a renegotiation. That means to me that AJ isn't even putting that idea on the table. It seems to me a no brainer for him to take a salary commensurate with his current skill level and stay on the team as a third down specialist ala Ronnie Harmon. I only see two reasons that isn't happening; AJ didn't offer it, or LT's ego won't allow him to take it. I would like to think LT wouldn't make a decision to appease his ego.

LT made it clear he would not take a pay cut, so why would AJ bother renegotiating?

what's to neggotiate on the Bolts side?

He's under contract. What he's doing (IN MY OPINIONconc:icon_tease:) is talking himself out of town. Maybe he doesn't say anything, he & AJ hug, and we win the SB for LT next year.

Exactly my point. He must know that another team probably won't pay him what he used to make, so why not renegotiate and remain home? Do you think he really believes another team will pay him top dollar? He can't be that deluded.

It is extremely sad and he was without a doubt my favorite Charger of all time. I feel as though he deserved a championship here. That said, when I look back I think to myself that its not like he didn't have chances. He will forever be a bolt but its time to move on. Good luck LT and I hope you land on your feet with a team that can use you.

After everything he's done for the team and community, maybe just maybe we should give him the benefit of the doubt that the things he's upset about are real and that he has valid reasons for saying he won't renegotiate :icon_shrug:

It doesn't hurt that Gates basically backed up everything LT said and added to it when he was on with Scott and BR this morning. Maybe it's not LT being selfish, but LT saying "I've had enough" of all the mememe bullshit, just like soooooooo many charger fans have said themselves?

From my point of view... I think he's tired of watching his opportunities to get a ring go down the drain b/c other players are more focused on "me" and not "team". I think he's tired of the lack of commitment to the run, not so much the low amount of carries but that the run game in general here isn't working and that he doesn't buy what Norv is selling.

I'm calling it right now - Chargers will have a 10-6 record and win the Super Bowl next year.

my bigger issue with that was how LT made so nice with everyone saying "Oh its not about me, I'm happy with my role and I just wanna win a super bowl with this team". I don't deny his complaints are probably valid but its this doublespeak that just irritates me. Which is it? Does he want to win (and understand that he's not what he used to be, now more clearly then ever) or does he just want to be the feature back regardless?

This shows its more the latter, I doubt he'll find a place where he'll be a feature back that also has a chance to win

He said in his interview this week with Scott and BR that he doesn't mind not being the "feature" back, he prefers being part of a tandem. When asked if he believes he can be a 1200-1400yd rusher, he said yes. That's it...

I think he has shown and extreme lack of leadership ability .. If he wanted to be part of the team (something that he claims he didn't feel in a recent Scott & BR interview) then he should been in there trying to create the family that he so craves. A good leader would have figured away to get involved. Instead he cried and pouted on the sidelines. I was one of his biggest defenders over the last couple of years but it is obvious the marriage needs to be split.

Yes .. he said that but he also claimed that there was a lack of family on the team and pretty much dissed on the younger players coming out of college. I'm sorry, but it speaks to a bigger issue.. LT was always the guy that lead by example but if you can't be the example, you need to find other ways to lead.
