LaDainian Tomlinson to get start against the Chargers
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on October 20, 2011, 3:57 PM EDT

The Jets’ stale running game needs a spark, and Rex Ryan is hoping that a motivational ploy could do the trick this Sunday.

Rex Ryan announced that LaDainian Tomlinson will start against the Chargers in his first game against his old team. It appears the starting nod is basically “ceremonial” rather than performance-based. Shonn Greene will still have his usual workload.

Starting Tomlinson is averaging only 3.4 yards-per-carry this year. Tomlinson is no better, but he’s made a number of key plays as a receiver. If nothing else, he gives Mark Sanchez a better check down option.

“I don’t have any bad bones against anybody. I’m sure the time will come when I come back and retire as a Charger,” Tomlinson said in a conference call to San Diego reporters.

It’s hard to imagine that happening while A.J. Smith is there.

Who is LT going to blame when he has 8 carries for 26 yards Sunday?

The chargers o line? I mean they weren't giving any blocks for him at all. What are they doing standing on the sidelines while he got cut down in the backfield every play?

I'm not sure what the hell you mean but I think you're dogging our O-line. In which case it's easy to drop a running back for a loss who trips over his own ******* feet in the backfield.

I for one hope LT does somewhat well. After all, I followed him from TCU to San Diego, and he is the reason that I am a Charger fan. I have been rooting for him to succeed, but for the Jets to fail ever since he left, and I look forward to the day he retires a Charger.

I agree with this bit above. Yes he said some stupid things leaving but I will always remember how great he was as a Charger player.

I feel the same way, I will be there when LT retires a charger wearing my #21 jersey - that said I hope he fails miserably on Sunday and the Jets go down in flames.

This year, LT is averaging 3.3 yards per carry......... his last year with the Chargers he averaged 3.3 yards per carry.

    Your point? ;)

Why do we keep talking about Lawrence Taylor? Linebackers don't run the ball!

Tomlinson said a few mean words on the way out that hurt some Charger fans' feelings, Taylor is a druggie.

Tomlinson is more deserving of the nickname.

They're both equaling "deserving" of the nickname........ it's their initials for crying out loud! :roflmao:

Just look at Tomlinson's name. "LaDainian Tomlinson". Of course people are going to call him by his initials.

Lawrence Taylor, on the other hand, has two VERY common names. People were just lazy with him.

It makes sense but really, it was Taylors nickname over a decade before people started calling Tomlinson. And the type of person that Taylor is is irrelevant, he's still a Hall of Fame linebacker who forever changed the position and how it's played.

The original LT was the best pass rushing OLB I ever saw........ as you said, he forever changed the position. "Our" LT was great, but not the greatest RB in NFL history.

Precisely. You can't say that "well he was a junkie so he doesn't deserve HIS nickname let's give it to someone else". What if someone started calling, I dunno, D'Brickashaw Ferguson 'Primetime' (I know the initials don't match it's just a random as **** example) that wouldn't fly.

But Tomlinson was a Charger, so that's all that matters
