    SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2010

Chargers OT Marcus McNeill Signs RFA Tender
According to multiple reports, San Diego Chargers left tackle Marcus McNeill has reported to the team and signed his one-year tender.

McNeil was a second-round pick (50th overall) out of Auburn in 2006, and the 6-7, 336-pounder has started all 62 games he's been active, earning trips to the Pro Bowl after the 2006 and 2007 seasons.

As a player with four accrued seasons, McNeill's tender had been worth $3.168 million in base salary for the 2010 season. However, because McNeill did not sign the tender by June 15, the Chargers reduced its amount to 110% of McNeill's 2009 base salary, or $588,500 for the upcoming season.

The prorated amount of McNeill's base salary is $519,265.

Because McNeill was placed on the roster exempt list in August, the earliest he'll be available to play for the Chargers is their Week 6 game against the St. Louis Rams.

OT Marcus McNeill signed his one-year, $630,000 tender. He will miss next 3 games, then be eligible to play against Patriots next month.

Reason McNeill signing today is so he can start Roster Exempt "suspension" and play by Oct. 17 at St. Louis. Will not make trip to SEA --ka

This is great news. I'm sure McNeill has been following the VJ situation and doesn't want to get as separated from the Chargers as him. I think that some long term deal might be worked out later this year

RT @itsbradybtch: McNeil's return is more important to the team's success than Jackson at this point, right? ... I believe so, yes.

Marcus McNeill signs one-year tender, reports to Chargers

Posted by Michael David Smith on September 25, 2010 1:40 PM ET
The Chargers have their left tackle back.

Marcus McNeill, the restricted free agent who had until now declined to sign his one-year tender offer, has now signed his tender.

PFT has learned that McNeill signed the one-year tender only, and has not signed a long-term deal.

Prior to this season, McNeill had started every game but two in his NFL career. He'll be eligible to return to the lineup after the Chargers' next three games.

He got a glimpse of AJ's sack. He must bow down to the brass pair.

That's 100% the right opinion. VJ and the DUI is a difficult prediction. MM was always on AJ list, but not the wanted deal from his agents.

I wonder how much of McNeill signing has to do with the VJ situation. McNeill must have snapped back to his senses when he saw how VJ's agents were so foolish and unsuccessfull in trying to strong arm AJ.

Do you think that they will now work on a long term deal since he is reporting? That would show VJ!

I absolutely would if I were AJ.

It sends the message that if you go about things the right way, and REPORT TO THE TEAM, you get paid. Holding out doesn't get anybody anywhere, and it'd be one hell of a backhand to VJ and his greedy bastard agents.

While contemplating McNeil's value as a back up vs Jackson's as a starter I'm struck by the irony of Peter King responding to a poster using a handle that's very similar to "Brady's bitch"

I would really know if he thought that it was worth it not to sign the original $3.168 million tender? Now he will get $407,000 this season. What did he gain?
