    Chargers land LT Max Starks

    By Michael Gehlken2:22 p.m.May 21, 2013

One offensive tackle was out the door Tuesday, and another announced he was coming in.
The Chargers waived Kevin Haslam, a three-game starter at left tackle in 2012. On the same day, free agent Max Starks donned a Chargers avatar on his verified Twitter account and announced he was joining the team.
The 31-year-old visited the Chargers earlier this month and projects as the team's starting left tackle. His arrival pushes King Dunlap into a swing role.
Starks started 16 games for the Steelers at left tackle in 2012.

When I saw that Haslam was history, I figured a LT was on the way. :)

    I believe that's "Telescopo," Syd.

Yeah, I don't think anyone's gonna confuse Starks with Anthony Munoz,
but they probably won't confuse him with Burger King Dunlap, either...

Props to him that he wasn't wearing some other teams' lid.

Chargers, Max Starks agree to one-year deal

Posted by Michael David Smith on May 21, 2013, 5:28 PM EDT

    AP
The San Diego Chargers needed an offensive tackle. Max Starks needed a job. It just made sense for them to get together. So it’s no surprise that Starks agreed to terms with the Chargers today.

Starks told Josina Anderson of ESPN that he has accepted a one-year contract offer.

The 31-year-old Starks has played in Pittsburgh for his entire nine-year NFL career. Last season Starks started all 16 games for the Steelers.

The Chargers will likely have Starks and King Dunlap compete for the starting spot at left tackle, while first-round draft pick D.J. Fluker starts at right tackle.

If he can provide us with the same sort of play that Roman Oben did for a couple years, i will be stoked!!!!

Especially considering the tough situation he's been in since the draft ended. I'm really intrigued by what he can do next year with ALOT more money to play with. Telesco has been especially impressive not roping the team into long term damaging contracts like last year. He could literally blow the whole thing up next year if he's not happy.

Re Starks he's pencilled in at starter and just gives us one more solid addition to the line. Now the Chargers will have one of the biggest OLs in the AFC, averaging somewhere around 320. And if Dunlap or Harris or Becton play their brains out and become the starter, I feel very happy knowing Starks is around in case of emergency

Nothing wrong with this move at all

good he's here for at least one year, hopefully Becton can become the starter in 2014, if not, draft a LT high next year and keep Starks one more year

Telesco seem much more savvy, cagey, and patient in free agency than his predecessor, :poop:!

Irony is AJ was infamous for doing nothing in FA until last year when desperation set it.

Example of why owners should never let a GM and HC become desperate. It hurts the future of the team if their risks don't work

    Oh...Hell..Yes!

Love this move, and the fact that Telesco built in safeguards with a one year deal.

It doubly improves the team...... we get a starting left tackle, and it allows Dunlap to be a swing tackle, becoming depth for both tackle positions. That's a win/win for the team.

I wasn't able to read the full scouting on this article because I'm not an insider, but this was a little segment from it

The Chargers signed LT Max Starks to a one-year deal Tuesday. Was it a late offseason steal or an act of desperation? To find out, we chat with SteelCityInsider.net publisher Jim Wexell. He analyzes Starks' game in detail and calls him perhaps "the most under-appreciated player in Steelers history."

True. He had ownership buying his "continuity" line of crap. Continuously backsliding!

I live this move alot. Starks sounds like a real smart vet with plenty of ability. Kinda surprised it was Haslam to be cut loose though. I would have had him above some others.
