    Per Shefter

@AdamShefter To help replace Danny Woodhead, Chargers plan to sign former Titans and Chiefs RB Dexter McCluster, per source. es.pn/2ckbIzT

    We'll see how this goes.

I like this move all things considered.

Obviously not a big splash since those aren't available on the open market at this juncture, but not bad.

Not as good a blocker or as solid overall as Woodhead for sure. But he's got big-play ability and can also return kickoffs. He played for Whiz with the Titans, so he should have some familiarity with the system.

He owes us a kick return to the house. Or was it 2?

Considering that our options were reduced to practice squads and street free agents, I think this is a good get. He isn't going to be Danny, but he can replace at least some of those catches in the offense. I really don't know anything about him as a blocker.

Unlike Woodhead and Sproles, McCluster blocks about howwhat you'd expect a 5'8", 180 pound guy to block.

Still looking at this WR group thinking we'll be lucky to win 8 games.

We'll need to win like the Panthers last year, and the entire OL and Gordon will need to stay healthy. I'm also anxiously waiting to see if Bosa plans to contribute this year.

If you're expecting Rivers to turn into a running QB like Cam, then I'd say it's time to put down the pipe.

No, but I think he's better at spreading the ball around.

And if you want to suffer (and since you're a Chargers fan I assume you do) go to the 0:30 mark

Better at spreading the ball around ? If Cam doesnt have ginn or olsen open his third option is to run for it. Rivers checks out every option and even then he'll hit the rb. Thats travis tyrell , gates , then the rb . If we're talking about last year of course

I'm no expert in analyzing routes and stuff but based on my unqualified opinion Benjamin and Williams looked pretty good in Allen's absence on Sunday.

Benjamin ran some nice routes, however our chunk plays came on crossing routes. Good teams will take away the middle of the field from us, make us beat them outside. Reason why we've struggled against really good teams.

Rivers missed 2 throws as well, one that could of been a touchdown to Benjamin. Next play was the strip sack in the red zone.

I agree. My concern is that Benjamin is 180 pounds soaking wet, and all of Williams' big plays have come on that same drag route. He doesn't run the classic route tree very well (IMO) or at least he hasn't been getting open very often on those routes.

Inman is looking like he's lost a step ever since that brutal concussion last year, and Whalen is just a guy. We all expected Allen to catch about 100+ balls this year, now that production is gone, and guys we wanted to be compliments are carrying the entire load.

The sky isn't falling yet, but if Benjamin goes down...

If it makes anyone feel any better, apparently the team did work out Ronnie Hillman, but ended up settling on McCluster over him.

    Not swayed either way.

I'm sure McCluster's familiarity with the scheme, ability to line up in the slot, and KR/PR experience made him the favorite going in. Now that Benjamin will be taking on a bigger role in the passing game, we shouldn't go risking his health on punts.

Hillman is easily the better pure RB, but I think McCluster could be the better fit to replace Woodhead.

I'm not completely sold that Hillman actually is the better pure RB. He's more of a btw the tackles type of guy than McCluster, but it's not like he's a dynamo in that regard. And otherwise, he runs for lower yardage clip, he's not as good a receiver, and he fumbles more often.

Like this addition. It'll depend on how quickly he can get ready.

I think they can win 10 games if they can avoid anymore injuries at RB or receiver. That's a big if. If given protection, Rivers will produce. The defense has a chance to be very good if Bosa proves his worth.
