Broncos fire Josh McDaniels. Timing a surprise but not a shock. Had little shot of sticking in 2011. Some pundits claimed never in jeopardy

Now that we've already played them twice, here's to hoping the Broncos start playing like the Cowboys and Vikings lol

Early Guess on 2010 Broncos coach: Jon Gruden. Makes too much sense.

More than one NFL exec thought McDaniels was getting fired last week. The embarrassment of the Raiders game tilted; Mini `Spygate' pushed

Broncos paying three head coaches in 2011 -- Mike Shanahan, Josh McDaniels, and the new HC. McDaniels and new HC to be paid in 2012.

Yep conc... it's gonna be Gruden. No coincidence that Chucky's people floated that story about him going to coach the Hurricanes. So Bowlen the drunk has panicked and will be the first bidder for his services.

    Shiiiiiiiiit... this sucks.

Isn't Bill Cowher ready to jump in the fray again? That would be trouble for the AFCW.

Why is it that the Broncos can pull the cord on their Head Coach after 2 years. While we can't after 4 years? Anyone?

Eric Studesville named Broncos’ interim coach

Posted by Michael David Smith on December 6, 2010, 7:29 PM EST
Eric Studesville will take over as head coach of the Denver Broncos for the rest of the season after today’s firing of Josh McDaniels.

Studesville is in his first year as the Broncos’ running backs coach. Now he’ll serve as interim head coach for the final four games of 2010.

Prior to arriving in Denver this year, Studesville spent six seasons coaching the running backs in Buffalo and three years coaching the running backs with the Giants.

Studesville has also served as a quality control coach with the Bears and been an assistant at several colleges. This is his first head-coaching position.

Now this makes me really sad. Even moreso than whne they pulled the plug on Shanahan. McDonalds was doing such a good job of keeping the Broncos D*** in the dirt.

The Panthers are rumored to be interested in the Stanford package--Harbaugh and Luck--so Cowher very well could be the next head coach of the Broncos. Cowher had worse quarterbacks than Orton in Pittsburgh, the 3-4 defense is already in place, and Bowlen seems to be a hands-off owner. So I think Cowher will be enticed.

Bowlen gave McDaniels way too much power, and it backfired. McDaniels was an arrogant prick and tried to be just like Belichick. Not too many coaches can build a championship-caliber team by making such risky moves. McDaniels has no one to blame but himself.

One of the early favorites for the candidate is actually Air Force HC Troy Calhoun. He was an assistant for Shanny back in the early part of the decade, he runs a WCO system similar to about the only type that Tebow might ever have any hope of succeeding in, and he's a steady, non-headache hire. I think after this whole McDaniels fiasco that Pat Bowlen is going to want to do as much of a quiet, low-maintenance hire as possible, very likely with the intention of bringing in someone who can develop Tebow as a passer and then he'll concern himself with whether or not he'll put a coach in play that could/would make the Broncos playoff competitors.

Meanwhile... thus end McD's "Belichick in Cleveland" portion of his coaching career. Now he'll likely end up somewhere else (quite possibly New England, if not somewhere else in the AFC East) as an OC for a few years, before some day down the line getting another crack at being an HC when he actually has the age and background to back up being the "my way or the highway" hardass that he tried so desperately to be in Denver.
