McNeill becomes starter on line

" src="http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20060822/images/sports_chargers.jpg" />It's looking more and more like Philip Rivers won't be the only Chargers offensive player starting his first NFL game when the season opens Sept. 11 at Oakland.

    Rookie Marcus McNeill, the team's second-round draft choice in April, yesterday took over the No. 1 job at left tackle – at least for now.

    "We're going to have him work with the first group this week," coach Marty Schottenheimer said as the Chargers began their final week of training camp with a pair of practices. "We're going to give him an opportunity to see how he does again against that No. 1 competition. He needs to get as many practice reps as he can."
