Saints WR Robert Meachem shows up to camp out of shape. Looks like he may have trouble getting ahead of the game with guys already on the team like Marques Colston and Devery Henderson.
You got to wonder about a guy's dedication when he's going to be a pro athlete and shows up out of shape. This makes me like the Craig Davis pick even more. Even though Meachem wasn't available to us by the time our pick rolled around. Good job, AJ and the gang.

Well, I look at like this. His job is to be in shape and ready to go. The guy is a professional athlete now. He's not a little kid. It's kind of like if you were a contractor and you show up to a job without your tools. Would you hire the guy that comes with all his equipment or the one that isn't prepared?
I'm not saying that he's a bust, but you figure that the guy has to know that you go to mini camp fairly soon after the draft and you should be ready.
My first impression of the guy is not good, but maybe you are used to stuff like that. As far as I'm concerned he should be ready. No excuse. He's not the only one that got invited to visit teams.

I can just imagine the reaction from this gentle and mild mannered group if Mr. Meacham had come to Murphy Canyon the way he reported to the Saints. Do I here faint echoes of calls for rope? Are there quick google searches for roofers and feather merchants?

True enough . I just dont think its time to say "glad we didnt get him"

He has had one minicamp, but i know what your saying.

Still, Favre didnt leave a good first impression either and he worked out ok. All im saying is give the kid a little more time.

    I got ya:yes:

Maybe saying "I was glad we didn't get him" was a little harsh. I just figure the guy should be ready. Hell, he could turn out to be the next Jerry Rice for all I know. It wouldn't be the first time I put my foot in my mouth.:icon_toast:

He's a guy that admitted his passion for the game was just found last year, one year before he was set to make some pretty big bucks in the NFL. He's a local kid for me and I hope he makes it big, but there are warning signs from him.

Meachem was a riser in the draft and as much as I wanted him to be a Charger, I think I really just was impressed by his measurables. I'm not saying that this type of thing makes or breaks him, but I really wasn't all that impressed with how he interviewed. He was pretty... for lack of a better word: dull. I hope I'm mistaking that for him being humble. Either way, I'm more concerned with Craig Davis the Charger, not what we didn't get.

Didn't most of the guys taken in the first round grab a couple of extra big meals leading up to the draft? This is less about a few steak dinners, and more about somebody who hasn't been working out enough.

I agree that it's way too early to be saying which rookie WR is a better pro, but there's no excuse for Meachem to not be in the proper cardiovascular shape in time for minicamp.

Yes i suppose they did. I just didnt like that after one minicamp somebody is saying they are glad we didnt get that guy. As Ron said, when it counts, im sure he will be in great shape and ready to go.

Posters in forums want a guy when they run a fast 40 or can do a backflip at 370 lbs and are quick to turn on somebody if they are reported out of shape.

I agree he could of been in good shape for his first minicamp but it isnt like they said he was out there puking his steak dinners up.

As a fan id be concerned if he showed up to TC out of shape.

I just dont put any importance on a minicamp. I know some do and get excited when a player does well but its a two day workout in shorts.

Minicamp can have a major effect on the beginning of a career. Didn't the Chargers lowball Quentin Jammer based on his "shortcomings" that were exposed in his first minicamp?

Xmann reported that, so it must be true.

LOL.....Wolfe must have figured he would be undrafted and is signing that contract fast.

I believe he was a 3rd round pick, not a 4th and im dumbfounded that they took him that high.

    5'7", 178 lb RB? :icon_huh:

A lot of players dont show up in good shape for camp.

But what would worry me is his only recently found love for the game. The guy doesnt seem committed to football.
