Merriman is just a "shell" of his former self, I don't see him here much longer...

I had doubts like alot of people about Merriman being here after 2010. Even if he had a Pro Bowl year and played in all 16 games, I just think he was moving on. Now with him sitting out the opening game against the Chiefs with ANOTHER injury, he is just become a liability, and I could easily see him not even being the starter when somewhat healthy.

He just hasn't been the same since the "tainted supplement" fiasco.

I agree with you, unfortunately, English has done zero to show he is able to take over that spot

I am pretty sure that once a player participates in one single practice, they are no longer eligible for PUP. But I could be wrong

No not quite. However a team has to designate the player on the PUP list in training camp, they can then take the player off anytime prior to the start of the regular season. After the start of the season the only option would be to place him on the IR list.

If a player is still on PUP at the start of the season, they remain on it until week... 6 I believe.

So since the regular season has started, he is no longer eligible for PUP, and even if he was, would we want to put him on the shelf for 6 weeks?

Unfortunately, I agree though the defense is about as good without Merriman as they are without him. There's at least some solace in that, right?

Wow, cut him because he can't play in week one? Pay him his guaranteed $3+ mil and let him play for someone else with nothing in return

$3 million aint **** for a cap hit.

    Cut the cancer.

This dude was toast the moment he took his paid vacation instead of getting the surgery when he should have done it. That is a mo-fo out for himself and has no regard for team.

Cut his *** and be done with it.

He will never play an effective down for us again. He will not be back next year. 3 mil for him to do nothing either way. At least it gives us an extra roster spot.

How many games does Merriman have to miss before we can label him as "not bringing it?"

I think he is out for KC.

If Merriman "holdsout" for KC - I say he is really really done.

    Finito.

Merriman knows there is no way in hell he gets the Franchise tag because McNeill or VJ will get it next year and he ain't getting a long term contract with us either.

The best solution is for Merriman to fake his injury and save himself for the next sucker.

Merriman has a long way to go to prove anything, hell the last two years he sucked and no team is going to lay out huge cash for him.

i believe if merriman stays out this one came and plays to full potential like when he first entered the league, our defense will be much improved and we could very easily be dominating i dont want merriman gone

I am OK with holding him out for a game or two to allow that achilles problem to subside...but the team just paid that man over 3 million dollars, which is way too much for a motivational speaker with a bad haircut. I want him out there on the field soon to either dominate or implode. If he does well, somebody (not us) gives him a chunk of change after we part ways. If he goes from "Lights Out" to "Merriman Lite" then he can transition from football player to full time celebrity. I would like to get "our money's worth" out of him this season. ($3.2 million from the Chargers and the cost of my season seats)

I don't mind him sitting out if he can't go or go effectively. I DO MIND THAT THIS PROBLEM CAME THREE WEEKS AGO, IT CAME AFTER HE HELD OUT ALMOST ALL CAMP FOR A BS REASON AND I MIND THAT IT HAPPENED THE FIRST DAY OUT AT CAMP AFTER HIS HOLDOUT.

Merriman lost alot of credibility in my book this year and only a monster year will fix that in my eyes

He doesn't have any in my book, he has been making a lot of "me first" decisions since the end of his rookie season. I would happily take a monster season out of him, but to me he is a year to year rental. I am not sold that he will be a monster on the field this season...I hope I am wrong on this one. If I had to venture a guess, the earliest we see him on the field is October 3rd against the Cardinals at home.
Get well soon "Lights" and play like your football future depends on it....because it does!!!
