Merriman, Phillips may not play Sunday

    Friday, November 13, 2009

The scourges of a resurgent Chargers defense, outside linebackers Shawne Merriman and Shaun Phillips, both are listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles. There was no question in Merriman's voice, though.

"I'll play," said Merriman. "I'll play."

For the second straight day, Merriman (foot tendinits) was withheld from practice, but Phillips' ankle enabled him to take part in drills. Listed as definitely out of the Eagles game is center Nick Hardwick and linebacker Jyles Tucker, both with bad ankles.

Nose tackle Ogemdi Nwagbuo, who also didn't practice due to an ankle problem, is listed as questionable and linebacker Tim Dobbins (knee) is doubtful.

I'm more concerned with the "ankle" injuries. What is going on in the training room? Tape isn't working anymore?
    Bad technique?
Sometimes it seems every injury is related to the ankle lately.

There's only so much you can do with tape.

Watch how teams handle pass rushers nowadays. Blockers tend to aim at their feet, cut blocking the hell out of them.

The injury list is sometimes made to disturb playing scemes for the coming opponent. The willingness to play is in the mindset for both Shawne and Shaun. They will play, mostly with limited time in rotation.

Wasn't it reported as tendinitis that Merriman suffered from in his knee before the torn ligaments were revealed. If just seems like the last three years we can't keep players on the field, this has to be one of the worst streaks of injuries I can remember.
