[Jon Runyan is] now playing with Chargers outside linebacker Shawne Merriman, who just a few weeks back called Runyan the dirtiest player he has lined up against. While Runyan defended his nasty, physical brand of blocking and doesn't plan to change, Merriman's OK with it now. "As long as he's doing it help us win, I'm good with it," Merriman said. "I'm excited about him coming in, and I put a little highlight reel together for him that he'll enjoy. It's a joke, but I got him pretty good. Ask him about that later."

    The Commitments (1991)

Twins: "Jimmy! Jimmy! Mickah Wallace wants to see yeh. He's in the pub."

    Scully and Dean: "Mickah Wallace?!"

Jimmy: "I hired him to do the door. Security."

Outspan Foster: "You're mad, Jimmy! He's a savage!"

Jimmy: "I know he is. But he's our savage."

I think Merriman may continue to find an excuse to miss practice to duck out of scrimmaging with him, though.

Thought "rec" was a typo for "rep" and was just trying to be witty. (emphasis on "trying")

Now that I think about it, why would you hit the C button if you're trying for the P?

C and P are close together, arent they? No?

I just made up a new type of poster. Be a "Rec Ho". Its the latest fad.

You are witty, Leo, you are.

Do you have a different keyboard than I? the C and P aren't even on the same side as each other. P's in the very top right of the top row of letters, C is just under the D on the left hand side.

I am sure we both have QWERTY keyboards.

I was attempting to be witty as well. We should not quit our day jobs.

Its just like when Rodney Harrison was with us and everybody said he was the dirtiest player in the NFL. Heck, I loved it since he was doing his dirty deeds for US. When he went to the Pats I then hated him since he was doing his deeds for Bellicheat. It's like we don't mind if a guy is "dirty" just as long as he's "dirty" to help us win.

As long as it doesn't dramatically cause our penalty record to skyrocket, keep "playin' 'em dirty!"

Penalties are a part of the game, great teams overcome them.

Almost, there is a high positive correlation between wins and number of penalties. The teams with the least penalties are winning teams. It's pretty much always been that way.

Great teams overcome them, but they also do not commit exuberant amounts of them.

I'll take my chances with a mean and powerful team. You can keep your choir boy's.

I fail to see where Leo is asking for Choir Boys's, that is a bit myopic to say he is.

He only said that the number of penalties should be controlled. I think he has a point. Bad teams lead the league in penalties. Can you show me a single good team that has done such?

Mean and powerful is one thing, but mean and stupid gets the penalties that derail the game...

Your perfectionist line of argument (there's either a lot of penalties or there are none, no in betweens) doesn't negate the fact that teams who commit too many penalities generally cost themselves Ws.

Note: Stating that a team shouldn't commit too many penalties is not the same as saying they shouldn't commit any. (although that would be nice, but we have to be real and expect some)

I never mentioned anything about what is acceptable in the amount of penalties. Please tell me what is the average of called penalties per game, and what is acceptable????

Particularly dirty players are yellow flag magnets. Even Dielman acknowledged this at one point in an interview, that he had to always restrain himself and it hurt his play but helped his team. Runyan's probably figured it out too but yeah, as much as I want an aggressive, physical player I will not be happy if it also causes the team to go backward on penalty yards. No one wants choir boys but there is a line to avoid crossing.

You responded to a request that our penalty numbers are not skyrocketed by his play with an assertion that "good teams overcome penalties".

The implication of this response meaning that a skyrocket in penalty numbers should not matter....when it does.

One should never imply or read what is not written into a statement. If you are not clear, then you should ask. It is, however true, good teams are able to overcome a penalty here and there.

Penalties in excess can also contribute to a loss, I never stated otherwise.

It was you adding the Choir boy portion of your post that clearly to me indicated that you felt the way I highlighted in my reply.
