From Twitter... My guess is just drunken 2AM ramblings.

    - It's funny how many messages I get about me being in san diego next year I think the questions are directed the wrong way...hmmm
    about 5 hours ago

    - What color uniform would I look best in?

    - How about somebody crop my pic in different colors and we can decide?

    - I'm going to sleep but that's the question for the next 24hrs what team can use me the best?

Sounds like a guy on his way out. Well we all know "Lights" is a "Me First" self promoter. He's like Marcelus Wiley but with real talent. I hope we keep him, but he doesn't sound too committed in staying here. Hell, you know Bellicheat will be calling him up as soon as they can if we don't resign him. You know how the Pats like recycled Chargers.....

Since Shawne was popped for juicing he has not been a dominant player. I understand the injuries, but he does not even look the same as he used too. I would like to keep him, but post juice Shawne is just an above average LB IMO.

    This is post hoc, though.

Do we really know if the drop off is because of steroids (or lack thereof), the injury, or different schemes? (He also hasn't been the same since Wade left...)

Or perhaps a combination of the three?

I just choose not to jump to conclusions, but the cynical part of me expects him to start being dominant again if he signs elsewhere.

You should realize that right now, SM is not going to be a FA, but a RFA. that means he does not know what is going to happen. You would have to ask AJ what he plans to do to have an idea of where SM might be playing next year.

I imagine he is basically letting the PR department tell Aj what he is tweeting in the hopes of getting something done.

It has backfire all over it.

It sounds typical of the kinds of things the Chargers organization tolerates...it speaks to that lack of professionalism and discipline that seems to haunt the football team.

It might behoove the team to send him packing and tell the other players if they decide to conduct team business over the air waves, on Twitter, Facebook, MyPlace, or wherever else they can hang out team laundry, they will be looking for different digs as well, and then stand by that.

And then he'll sign with the Patriots and be his old dominant self again.

Yeah because Randy Moss would never do anything like that or say dog it in a game or something.

No we really don't know for sure, but from someone that knows a little something about steriods I can't help to think that his getting off the juice has something to do with it. If you look at pics prior to him being popped he looks like he has much thicker muscle mass. Just speculation on my part, but like I said I do have some experience with steriods and the performance drop when you stop using them is huge. I hope he stays and becomes a dominant player again.

he seems to be backtracking his statements as if to say he didn't really mean it but I don't like what it seems to suggest. Not to mention there was already the thinking that he wouldn't be here because we drafted Larry English.

I don't know what to expect, I'd like to have him for one more year but if some team is willing to pay high for him (first rounder or so) then he might be gone

Oh come on. Every organization has these issues, even your vaunted Patriots.

Do we really have to turn every post Buck or Beerguy makes into a Patriots vs. Chargers thing?

I think he has very valid points. Why not address those instead of talking smack about the Pats back @ them. Of course the Pats have issues, like Conc says, every team does.

Even though I think twitter is basically for attention whoring I don't think the NFL can do much about telling their players not to use it when it's the offseason.

Thanks for the support, Lightning. It really has nothing to do with the Patriots and a whole lot to do with the Chargers.

The Pats certainly have their problems, and this past year has shown those problems pretty clearly, but if there is one thing Kraft will not tolerate are employees who make stupid decisions that weaken the discipline of his players. Adelius Thomas is a perfect example of the kind of player whose behavior won't be tolerated...I'll bet the house he won't be a Patriot next year, and if he is, I suspect he will have a totally different attitude.

I have to agree with the poster who mentioned that Merriman has not been the same player since he got off the juice. He hasn't...but in short, this has nothing to do with the Patriots. Maybe the NFL should take a lesson from the way David Stern handled the Gilbert Arenas affair. Swift and decisive...you can't play anymore.

Usually, AJ Smith has been very good about weeding out players who do not give a consistent effort, which is likely why Cro is walking out the door. It has been speculated that Shawne would be out soon, anyway, but he just wants to do his due diligence before pulling the trigger.

Agree with RTL. Buck and Beerguy actually are cool dudes. They do have some valid points though. Conc is right too that all teams have some kind of issues such as these. Some more than others (Faiders....)

While I agree I think the point being made is that while we have strategic leadership, and good leadership in Norv and AJ, we need more tactical leadership (guys on the ground). And while Aj has striven for high character guys and people who could be molded into leaders, I'm not seeing much leadership developed on the Defense. Offensively Rivers and Hardwick hold down the fort. Defensively, who is there? Cooper doesn't have much authority, Jammer doesn't take command, Phillips isn't in a positive to speak with any authority, and the rest are pretty young.

For leadership to be effective it needs to spread across the board, and it needs to be held at all levels. We need that player leader.

I think Cooper does a good job of coordinating the defensive tactics along with Weddle, but I did advocate bringing in Dawkins last season as an "emotional" leader.

I think we have the tactics down, but sometimes, I wonder if the drive is there...players like Siler and Dobbins lead by example in this regard, but I want someone to be more vocal about it.

The chargers defense against the jits did a great job. Other than one play where Cro didn't want to hurt himself.

Just about every professional business has a twitter account.

Just because immature football players make themselves look like immature idiots on their twitter accounts doesn't mean only immature 16 yr olds and those that act like one use it.
