Anybody know anything about this LB out of Arizona State that we've just signed as an UDFA. Mike Nixon is the name. I always wonder about supposed LBs who are 'smallish'. This guy is 6-2 and 228lbs. That is Strong Safety type size no?. I believe he picked off a few passes in his day.

I assume best we can hope for is him being a Special Teams standout?. Or could he in theory make a run for the SS position that Stuckey seems to be the front runner for?. :icon_shrug:

He played baseball too so must be a decent athlete.

For some reason he reminds me of Tedy Bruschi - didn't he come from Arizona St too?

He transitions to ILB, not sure about his coverage for safety. However, I think he will compete for ILB, might make the PS.

Don't know how he is going to stack up against the run at only 229 pounds!!

He would have to project as a Strong Safety wouldn't he??? Unless he is able to stack on an extra 15-20 pounds with out losing any speed/agility.

    Cooper is 235
    Butler is 235

    Siler is 239

    Ellison is 221.

As an ILB he is decent weight. It matters more about muscle, and less about weight. To be honest even 10 pounds aren't that big of a deal, he could easily gain half that just by going to the gym and eating a little more protein.

He could be a little like Applewhite where he does a mix of OLB and ILB.

He has more versatility then Tucker, who can just rush. Lang is another good candidate to take over Tucker's spot or get an LB spot.

Yea but he plays like a white boy. Intelligent, nose for the ball, and a leader.

Intelligent players always last longer in the NFL. Lynch a HOF, wasn't a fast player. Side to side speed matters more for an ILB then a 40 time anyways and he has a decent cone and side to side speed.

John Lynch was also a third round draft pick. I'm hopeful that one or two of this year's UDFA class pans out for us but to think that any of them is the next coming of Dick Butkus or Jerry Rice is a little myopic.
