Don't get your hopes up just yet, though, due to 2 points (both highlighted in the article)

    1. It doesn't say how much he's trying to sell (ie, whether or not he's going to sell enough that the new buyer has the controlling share)

    2. Becky Moores has to approve, and who knows if she will or not.

I just realized TT posted this in the "Padres offseason news thread" but I think this deserves its own thread considering the possible ramifications.

Seems kinda crazy that a divorce can have so much affect on which is essentially a public company. I mean the Pads are part of the city of San Diego. Didn't the stadium get built with public funds?

    crazy

What if he sells and they end up moving?

    who losses?

    US, THE FANS!!

    :tdown::tdown::tdown:

Hey Leo, awhile back I mentioned Moores and his divorce proceedings, and what Moores was doing to this Team.

    Do you believe it now?

    Yeah.

I've pretty much done a 180 on Moores as it's become painfully obvious.

I still maintain an opinion that he was a good owner......until he got into the divorce proceedings.

I don't think the stadium itself could be turned into a football stadium due to the design, but maybe they can use the site.

But I'm no architecht so I'm not sure how much work would be required to turn it into one, I just know PetCo was specifically designed to be a baseball stadium.

Why move a team when you already have the new stadium? It's not worth the bad PR.

Really only way I'd see a move is if they were bought by some Las Vegas guy who really wanted to bring a team to Las Vegas and the league allowed it but I think that's pretty unlikely.

    That's a good point.

Would the league even allow a move considering how new PetCo is?

I figured the Padres fans here would be jumping for joy at this news.

One negative could be selling the team would be that the new owner would move the team away from San Diego to any town.

That would mean a lot of actual San Diego city council and Padres Fans will be pissed off and Petco Park would become a big eye sore. I do not know what would happen to Petco Park but the worst case would be destruction of the site and develop it some how.

Even though I do not think the MLB would allow a move at this junction but crazier things have happened. I never thought that the Montreal Expos would move but they did. In my opinion was a very bad move.

I hope that the San Diego Padres will remain the San Diego Padres if they are sold.

Here is the worst case scenario. San Diego would loose both Franchises the Chargers and the Padres. That would be a very sad day in San Diego if that would happen.

We would only have the College Aztecs and Toreros to cheer for.

I would bet that there is something written that the Padres cant leave, or they would have to pay off Petco,

The thing with the Expos is no fans were going to the game, the had an old stadium and if I'm not mistaken they had no owner. Plus the league has been trying to contract them out of the league for a while.

My lil nephew, Matt (18) lives in SLC and is a huge Padres fan. We had a family dinner last night and he was wore his Padres cap to the restaurant.

I learned that this kid is playing high school ball, pitcher, and throwing "in the high 80s". He's being scouted by the local colleges too.

He'd like to play for the Pads someday, preferably in SD.

There are a lot of kids who throw that hard. It is learning how to “Pitch” is what makes a good pitcher.
Learning how to hit his “spots”, learning how to mix up his speed, learning how to pitch to an Umpire. And with that I mean learn what is a strike for the day, and learning how to keep hitting that spot.

A strike zone is egg shaped. I can call a ball that is 5 Inches off the plate a strike all day long as long as it is belt high. That same exact same pitch at the knees will get me run out of town if I called it a strike.

A pitcher that is wild will not get the same calls as a pitcher that is consistently hitting the same spots!

At 90 MPH, it is all about location.

I'm sure Matt has a long way to go before he is ready for the big leagues, hell even the minor leagues. :flag: His mom does say that he has a really good change up, or was it curve ball, or sinker?... Can't remember which pitch she referenced.
