I know it isn't up to LT's or our high standards but I was thinking about it today and I just realized that he turned in another 1000 yard season. Eight touchdowns isn't bad either. He has spoiled us with his superhuman efforts we have become accustomed to. I pity the RBs who follow LT on this team, once he hangs up the cleats. The bar has been set too high for most players to even reach for.

LT goes over 1000 yards for the season today for his 8th consecutive 1000 yard season (out of 8 seasons played). He is one of only 9 players in NFL history to have 8 or more 1000 yard seaons and one of only 5 to have 8 or more consecutive 1000 yard seasons.

    Tomlinson:

    * Holds the all-time NFL record for single season touchdowns (31). (The previous record was 28, it was set in 2005 by Shaun Alexander.[14])
    * Holds the all-time NFL record for single season rushing touchdowns (28). (The previous record was 27, in 2003 by Priest Holmes and in 2005 by Shaun Alexander.[15])
    * Holds the all-time NFL record for the most points scored in a single season (186). (The previous record was 176. It was set in 1960 by Paul Hornung.[16])
    * Holds the all-time NFL record for most consecutive games with a rushing touchdown (18). (The Previous record was 13, it was set in 1983 by John Riggins)
    * Holds the NFL record for most consecutive multi-touchdown games (8). (The previous record was 7, it was set in 1983 by John Riggins.[17])
    * Tied the record for most consecutive games with a touchdown score with Hall of Fame fullback Lenny Moore (18).
    * Tied for third place for most career 200-yard rushing games with several other players (4).
    * Holds the all-time San Diego Chargers record for most career rushing yards (10,650). (The previous record was 4,972, it was set in 1968 by Paul Lowe.)
    * Holds the all-time San Diego Chargers record for most career touchdowns (111). (The previous record was 83, it was set in 1970 by Lance Alworth.)
    * Holds the all-time NFL record for fewest games needed to achieve 100 touchdowns, with his 100th career touchdown (90 rushing, 10 receiving) in his 89th game (breaking the previous record of achieving the mark in the 93rd game of a career, which was done by both Jim Brown and Emmitt Smith).
    * Tied for Second place on the list of NFL all-time rushing touchdown leaders -- behind Emmett Smith and tied with Marcus Allen.
    * In 2006 Tomlinson became the second player in NFL history to score 4 touchdowns in 2 straight games (Marshall Faulk is the other).
    * Holds the record for most touchdowns scored in a five game span with 16 TDs (14 rushing, 2 receiving), breaking his own record of 15 that he had set two weeks earlier. Prior to that, the record was held by Jim Brown with 14.
    * Became the only player in NFL history to rush for 1000 yards and receive 100 passes in a single season.
    * Second player in NFL history with 1,800 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards in one season.
    * Joins Emmitt Smith, Priest Holmes, Shaun Alexander, and Marshall Faulk as the only running backs to record consecutive seasons of 20 or more touchdowns
    * Combined Yardage, Most Attempts, Game, 48, James Wilder, Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers, Oct. 30, 1983; LaDainian Tomlinson, San Diego Chargers vs. Denver Broncos, Dec. 1, 2002

We are all blessed to have a future hall of fame player breaking records right before our eyes. I know I will always remember standing next to Ant as LT broke the TD record. God willing he will break many more for us!

    I love LT man.

I wish him and Phil could get on the same page when it comes to screens and passing to LT outta the backfield.

The last one was Rivers throwing the ball away. It is the only way to explain Rivers throwing it to LTs back.

Face it though, the team is coming together at the right time!

To add to this...His numbers vs other all time greats over the same number of years are a real eye-opener....check out LT vs these backs in all the key stats that I compiled at the beginning of the year. He is either THE best...or in the top 2 over the first 7 years of a career in all of the biggest categories for a RB.

    (through 7 years)-

    Eric Dickerson
11226 yds rush 1663 yds rec 12889 YFS 82 TD rush 86 total TD

    Walter Payton
9608 yds rush 2163 yds rec 12333 YFS 71 TD rush 78 total TD

    Barry Sanders
10172 yds rush 2180 yds rec 12352 YFS 73 TD rush 80 total TD

    Emmitt Smith
10160 yds rush 2200 yds rec 12360 YFS 108 TD rush 115 total TD

    Marshall Faulk
8110 yds rush 4682 yds rec 12792 YFS 67 TD rush 89 total TD

    LaDainian Tomlinson
10650 yds rush 3375 yds rec 14025 YFS 115 TD Rush 129 total TD

HOF backs through first 8 years:

    Eric Dickerson
11903 yds rush 1755 yds rec 13628 YFS 86 TD rush 90 total TD

    Walter Payton
10204 yds rush 2474 yds rec 12678 YFS 72 TD rush 74 total TD

    Barry Sanders
11725 yds rush 2327 yds rec 14052 YFS 84 TD rush 91 total TD

    Emmitt Smith
11234 yds rush 2434 yds rec 13668 YFS 112 TD rush 119 total TD

    Marshall Faulk
9492 yds rush 5447 yds rec 14939 YFS 79 TD rush 110 total TD

In 2008, to keep pace through first 8 years, Tomlinson would need:

1253 yards rushing to keep pace with Eric Dickerson
2075 yards rec to keep pace with Faulk
914 YFS to keep pace with Dickerson
    Already ahead in rushing TD's
    Already ahead in Total TD's

    Observations:

From this point forward in their careers...Dickerson was just about done. At Tomlinson's age going into 2008 (29), Barry Sanders had his biggest year with 2000+ yards rushing. Emmitt Smith would never again see 1400 yards rushing but would continue to compile for several years. Payton had three of his bigger years still left in the tank. Faulk had his last significant season in his 8th year.

    GREAT POST CONC! :D

Like I told a pal of mine last night who was complaining about LT pouting and "poor" production this season....

LT has EARNED my loyalty - imo he has earned all of our loyalty. One season is not enough to change all that he has done for the city of San Diego nor all he has accomplished on the field.

Maybe now the talking heads will STFU!

Can he nab this record? IMO LT shouldn't retire until he does that is unless out of respect he chooses not to break that record. I couldn't see LT doing that though. It would just be awesome to hear "Ladanian Tomlinson is the all-time NFL leading rusher!"

Don't forget that he has 8 rushing td's this year, and needs only 2 more rushing td's to have 10 or more rushing td's in 8 straight seasons.

How many RB's can say that.
