I'd feel worse for the guy if I read a single positive thing about him....... but I haven't. Even if he was healthy, he still was a long shot to make the roster.

According to this, if he is cut, it would be about a $500k savings

They'd have to wait until he was healthy and then cut him.

And if he tore his ACL who knows how long that will be.

Yes, that's an option, but it's usually done with players that are earning the minimum..... and practice squad guys.

    Chargers waived/injured ILB Jonas Mouton.
He'll go on injured reserve when he clears waivers. One of former GM A.J. Smith's most bungled draft picks -- and that's saying something -- Mouton has given the Chargers nothing since Smith made him the 61st overall pick in the 2011 draft. Mouton tore his right ACL on the first day of training camp.

    Yep, just saw this......

When Jonas Mouton suffered a season-ending knee injury Thursday, his 2013 salary became guaranteed if it wasn't already.

Saturday, the Chargers announced they will place Mouton, 25, on injured reserve "once he clears waivers." Typically a player who is "waived-injured" is unclaimed and lands on IR. A claiming team typically would incur salary and rehab costs for an injured player.

Mouton in the third year of a four-year, $3.26 million contract.

General manager Tom Telesco, who inherited Mouton, a second-round selection from Michigan in 2011, said on Friday that he feels for Mouton, who became the second Chargers linebacker in two months to suffer an ACL tear. Melvin Ingram went down in May, also during a non-padded practice. "It's part of football," Telesco said.

Mouton was practicing with the second team, behind rookie Manti Te'o, whom Telesco drafted after trading up in the second round. Shortly before the draft, the Chargers claimed another 3-4 inside linebacker, D.J. Smith, a former Packers starter who suffered torn ACL and MCL ligaments in Week Six last year. Smith practiced on Thursday.

Mouton missed his rookie season with a shoulder injury. Last year, he played sparingly in three games.
