According to Michael Gelkin ILB Jonas Mouton was released after failing a physical. Three years with the team, 2 years on IR, 5 TOTAL SNAPS played.

The release of Mouton got me thinking; is Jonas Mouton the worst pick (in terms of location selected, where he was projected to go, and value given to the team) in the entire AJ Smith era?

I´d say Mouton and English are tied for first place

It's close but I'd still go with English, based off his contract (which was before the new CBA) which hurt us during that time, when we could have used that money elsewhere.

English, because he was a 1st rounder. If you measure it by actual games played, then Mouton is the winner. ;)

Both were taken despite "conventional wisdom" having both players ranked considerably lower. Just another example of AJ's particular genius.

I remember English projected as a late first to early second rounder whereas Mouton was projected as a fourth or fifth rounder. So if I remember correctly, English was a stupid reach. Mouton was a total WTF stupid pick.

Mouton was the best player on what may've been the worst defense in college...... how do you evaluate that? Yeah, it was another AJ flyer that sank like a lead balloon.

Davis (Sammy & Buster) both at least contributed somewhat while on the field - not great but they brought something to the table. English same thing - he was occasionally effective as a pass rusher. Mouton couldn't do squat or even stay healthy enough to show anything.

What burns me most of all is that AJ pissed away two 2nd rounders and two 3rd rounders on Marcus Gilchrist, Mouton, Vincent Brown (looking like a failed pick) and Shareece Wright (best out of all of them). Imagine what Telesco could have done with such or even how much better we'd be if we converted the Mouton pick to Justin Houston.

Wow Mouton v English, it's close... but I think Mouton shades it as worst pick. Was incredulous at the time. I had at least heard of English when we picked him. Mouton was a who!?/WTF!? ego pick.

I'd love to know what Jimmy Raye really thought of that pick. He simply can't have been at the top of his list when we went to pick there in the 2nd round.

another AJ bust cleared off the roster. Its awful that AJ could select so many players so high in the draft and they turned out so bad and were always hurt. Incredibly bad luck or... stupid is as stupid does Mrs. Blue.

Sometimes I think this board hates the Mouton pick more than the Leaf pick with how much you all harp on him.

It was a bad pick, but it was also a 3rd round pick. Let's move on, lol

    Important factoid:

It was actually a 2nd round pick at # 61 which we had taken from the Jets by having had traded Antonio Cromartie to them for a conditional 3rd round pick, then AJ went and cluster farged it all up by taking a guy who was basically a projected 5th rounder.

If you can get over it that easily then go ahead, but I can cite the next 5 LBers who were taken after this gem of a pick who contributed significantly to their respective teams than the whole ONE tackle, ZERO sacks and ZERO pass deflections which this dud posted up during his illustrious 3 year roster spot :sneaky:

On the plus side, the team laundry crew didn't have to worry about getting stubborn grass stains out of his uni.

Whoops. My memory slipped me, I forgot it was in the 2nd round. That changes everything....well, not really.

You want to know how I get over it so easily? The guy who drafted him isn't in charge of our drafts anymore.

AJ got desperate and started grabbing for anything he thought could help pull himself out of that big ole hole he dug.
