National City OKs talks on stadium

    <font class="newstext">The National City City Council voted unanimously to authorize city officials to begin talks with the Port District and its tenants over the future use of 52 bayfront acres that have been touted as a potential stadium site. </font>

    <font class="newstext">City Manager Chris Zapata said the approval also allows him to begin talks with the football team, although no meetings have been scheduled. And it triggered the hiring of Les Girard, a former San Diego assistant city attorney, who worked on Chargers leases and agreements between the city and the Padres involving Petco Park.</font></blockquote>
