So just sketching through a possible 53 man roster right now and the WR and LB core just looks young and thin. We need a veteran LB and a true #2 receiver. Here is what I have for LB's making the team right now:

ROLB - Antwan Barnes, Larry English
RILB - Takeo Spikes, Jonas Mouton
LILB - Donald Butler, (Brandon Siler)
LOLB - Shaun Phillips, James Holt

We will probably carry 9 lb's due to how young they are, but this list looks scary. We have to sign Siler. And we need one more veteran ILB to carry us through. Without Siler we have one ILB vet with a second year guy who was on IR all last year and 2 rookie draft picks. Since we can't sign Burnett, I believe we have to go fast and hard at Nick Barnett from GB. I think Donald Butler looked great in college and in the pre-season last year, but he needs a year or two of seasoning to be ready to start.

    As for the receiver corps:

WR - Vincent Jackson, Seyi Ajirotutu
WR - Patrick Crayton, Vincent Brown

Thats all we have signed right now (Assuming Vince signs his contract today). I know Philip can make anybody look good, but we need a true #2 receiver on this squad. Crayton is a solid receiver, but he is not gonna scare anyone. And we have 6 UDFA WR's in camp but if any UDFA makes the team this year I'll be shocked. Just no time to get them ready, a few will hit the practice squad but thats it. With Steve Smith off the market, and Floyd looking out of our price range who do we go after? Not sure we have money for any tier 1 WR FA's out there, so what Tier 2 can we sign?

    Any thoughts?

What happened to Legs? VJ can't sign until tomorrow. Manny Lawson for LB?

Legs is unsigned as of yet and the consensus is stupid off field moves will make AJ kick his *** out the door. Seriously, drunk and messing with a cop inside a homicide scene. Cops tried to escort him out and he fought back a little. I dont think i'ver ever been that drunk, but then if I was would I remember?

No question that LB is still a position that needs addressing........ WR is less of a concern.

Well, for ILB maybe Stephen Tulloch, although he's been playing in a 4-3. He's been a tackling machine the last couple seasons. Perhaps Kirk Morrison. He was in a cover 2, but I think he might be okay in a 3-4.
Or Barrett Ruud. Another 4-3 guy who might be able to make the switch to 3-4.
All these guys are good, but not outstanding.

I agree we need another legit receiver to be a true super bowl contender if for no other reason for depth. THe chiefs brough in steve breaston. What will we do to stay competetive at wr?

HAHAHAHAHA I wouldn't be too opposed except that norv is not the kind of guy that cAN KEEP him under control. Owens is still an imposing receiver even at his age and would be very cheap. For such a low price maybe it would be worth it. If he gets out of line we can just release him.

Agree. I think he knows his age and if VJ went down he could step up.
We better try to keep Floyd!

i'd prefer that over all these other guys. Roy williams is also an option but obviously another headache.

Lance Moore from the saints is also an option and he would be relatively cheap. TJ housh could be had as could bernrard barrian.

We need a #2 that could step up to a 1. I am not sure if any of those guys fit the bill. I would take Lance Moore out of the group but health is an issue.

I think the Saints are in the midst of locking up Lance Moore.
Braylon Edwards and Steve Smith from New York are still available. Both are decent players.

Burnett might yet be back. Not sure any team in the NFL values him as highly as he does himself. The Barnett ship may have sailed. I'd like to see Floyd come back also. Legs must have a chance of returning, if he didn't he'd have been dumped with Buster et al. Were Legs to come back I could see us going after a Braylon Edwards type but cheaper.

We have a good QB, something the Chiefs don't have. So having great WRs for them, will be wasted with Cassel behind center

Yeah he is. He had a descent year, but will be just like Derek Anderson, a one year wonder and garbage after that

In that case he's been a 2 yr wonder no?. He had a great year in NE too. The guy doesn't get the credit he deserves imho. He's the second best QB in the AFC West (not saying that'd be hard!).

You are right, I don't give him credit for New England. I could have succeeded in that situation

IMO, he is nothing more than a average/below average QB who was in a good situation in NE and now is carried by the best running game in the league

There is no doubt KC has, if not the best, one of the best running attacks in the NFL. I love me the speed of Jamaal Charles.

The Bolt's should just make Burnett a fair offer and let the chips fall where they may. The team at this point is better with him than without him.
