If there is a home game in week 2 or 3 (Sep 14th or 21st) I may be able to make it to San Diego for it.

I'm trying to time it so I can go to a Chargers game and a few Padres games in the same trip.

I wonder what the odds are that once again the Bolts will opening the season as the second Monday night game forcing the delay of the season another day? I hope I am wrong because I really hate to wait for the Bolts to open the season an extra day, ESPN should pick the 49ers for the west coast Monday night game.

    I don't mind that, actually.

I can watch the Sunday games in peace not fretting about what the Chargers are going to do/just did and then watch the Chargers the next night.

Just give me the schedule already- with the draft being pushed back, the withdrawal symptoms are bad this year :(

The shifting of the draft has been v hard to take, it'd be on tomorrow in a normal year. It is happening far too late for me I'm already tired of all the pre-draft chat and BS, can only imagine what it must be like in the US listening to it.

It's times like this I'm very thankful I'm as much of a baseball fan as I am a football fan.

I would say I'm as much of a Padre fan, but it's harder for me to care about other teams. I could sit and watch any football game (maybe because they only play 16 games) and just get engrossed in it.

It doesn't help that the Padres themselves aren't that good, being consistently in the bottom 5 of batting average and runs scored isn't exactly a ticket seller.

At the end of the day winning will sell more tickets to the not-so-die-hards than anything else, and the Padres haven't been doing enough of that lately.

But to comment on the generality of your statement, just like winning football games isn't just about who has the best offense, it's the same in baseball.

In football offense sells tickets, defense wins games. Baseball isn't much different in that regard. Home runs sell tickets, pitching wins games.

I'm not sure if you've noticed but, up until the first month of this season, Padres pitching hasn't exactly been that great either.

Also, it's a relative statement. Obviously if your offense is so abysmal you pretty much never score runs you're not going to win very many games. That's also no different than football.

Well that's my point, they don't score enough, they don't win enough, even I would chose talking football over discussing damn Chase Headley striking out with RISP every night.

Well, it's like I said in my original reply, I was just responding to the general statement you made and not about the Padres.

And getting back to my original statement: That's why I'm glad I'm just as much of a baseball fan (re: not just Padres, they're just my favorite team) as I am a football fan.

I can and do watch other games like I watch other football games when my favorite team isn't playing.

FWIW, Headley is overrated and isn't the best offensive player on the team. He had one good year and suddenly everyone acts like he's Barry Bonds. But he did hit a game winning HR last night.

Amazed that we play the Cards to end preseason then right again week 1 and the Hawks week 2 of pre-season and week 2 of regular season. Seems kinda crazy. Expect pre-season to be even more vanilla then the normal vanilla.

The last 5 games are going to be very tough. That has to be the toughest 5 game span in the NFL this year.

Yeah but we seem to play UP to tough competition. I've got a good feeling about this season if we can get a couple immediate starters in the draft (particularly CB and NT).

Would much rather play the tough teams (this is how skills and sense of "team" develop).
If they make it into playoffs after this schedule, they will certainly deserve their spot in the postseason.
Respect is earned, hopefully this is a step in that general direction.
Would like to make the 49er game and watch some revenge being exacted, still bitter from the '94 season.

I'm predicting 2-0 start seeing as that'll be the last thing most pundits will predict.

If there's anything the NFL teaches us year in and year out is that last year's "strength of schedule" often means little to nothing the following season.

While I wouldn't predict many of these opponents to regress you never know.

No one here believes we can hang with the Seahawks and 49ers? People need to stop assuming Broncos = Entire AFC. different teams just match up better with others. The Colts who we beat had beaten both the Hawks and Niners in the season. I think with how we're building our team with D. Brown signing and a good draft class and will be better team. The thing I'm most anxious to see is how better of a coach Mike McCoy will be in year two(especially with more of his guys in the system) also how much Frank Reich allows Rivers to lead this team. I think now this is the perfect schedule to gauge exactly where we are in the league, lots of great teams and little cream puffs.

You can hang with a team and still lose the game with less than 20 seconds to go. Ask anyone.

I think you're nitpicking his choice of words.

I believe he's saying the Chargers can beat both teams.

Whether or not they will, of course, remains to be seen.

I think we can beat any team with Philip Rivers leading the way, including Seattle and Denver. I just think it's fair to say we're not going to go 16-0, and if you're going to pick some losses they might as well be to teams like that.

Plus we haven't even seen how the draft or the next wave of FA is going to play out, so even predicting 11 wins was a tad homerish on my part.
