Played with a guy in high school who made it back in less than a month with the very same injury, but to be fair he was a CB not a RB.

    Unfucking believable.

ESPN confirmed it via text message, but I still can't find an online report.

I'm just glad that this happened at the beginning of the preseason and not week 8.

At best he'll start the season, at the worst he'll show up in week 3 or 4.

The good news is he's 24, not 30+ so he has a chance to heal quickly and still have a great year.

The bad news is he's about to miss the rest of camp, and it could effect the conditioning he worked so hard for.

At least we're overloaded as far as WRs and TEs are concerned. If he does miss time the air game should be able to pick up the slack against weak secondaries like OAK and TEN.

This sucks. Ryan Matthews = China Doll. Not good for the coming season. Now WTF is Norv going to do for a running game? Oh... that's right we'll just pass more. Does this put us seriously behind the 8 ball for the 2012 season or what?

With Ronnie Brown and Le'Ron McClain (...and maybe Curtis Brinkley) they should have enough of a threat in the running game to keep defenses honest and not have them tee off on Rivers every down until Mathews can begin to shoulder (...pardon the pun) his part of the load again.

I wouldn't worry about the conditioning matty..

After this surgery, he can still ride the gym bike. I don't know how fit that will keep him but it's been then standing or laying around. Also 3-4 weeks down the line he should be anywhere from %50-%80 and he can start running. Obviously no contact..

But, its going to be the hits he takes, and all that physical stuff you get in pre-season/camp to prepare you for the regular season he will miss.

I mean Ryan Grant is still out there, if we feel like RM won't be back 100 % by the bye week in week 7..

If were going Benson I'd rather try and drag LT out of retirement lol

I'd rather sign a guy like Ahmard Hall slide him to fullback and let McClain bulldoze people..

If he's g0ing to get injured, it might as well be now instead of later.
I'd like him back around Week 5.

I'd rather suffer through Brown and Brinkley for 1 or 2 games.

He got rolled on, pulled his shoulder the wrong way, he walked off acting like no big deal, then he started to feel it. Just a fracture, they'll bolt it together and it will be healed in about 4 weeks, then we'll see when he is ready to go, week 1-3 somewhere.

Week 5??? I'd be very disappoint with that.

I think people are forgetting there is still 31 days until the opener (4 weeks). He could easily be back at full speed by week 3, I think week 2 is the realistic goal though.

So much for AJs draft record from 2007-2011. Good thing 'he' changed it up this year.

It is unusual for a clavicle fracture to require surgery, and most often an attempt at treatment in a sling is made. Surgery is required in some situations when either the skin is broken or if the fracture is severely displaced or shortened.
Clavicle fractures should heal completely within 12 weeks, but the pain usually subsides within a few weeks. Often patients are back to full activities before 12 weeks has passed, especially with younger patients.
Children will heal a bone in about 3 to 4 weeks, teenagers need about 6 to 8 weeks, while adults may take up to 4 months.
Yes, the dude is an athlete but he's also an adult with a history of injuries. The Chargers will tell us it will be good to go in 6 weeks, and although I'm not a doctor, I'd wager it will take Mathews closer to 8 weeks to be back up to speed. That's 2 months from now. Week 4 or 5 possibly...and if we are sitting at 3-1 or 4-0, why rush him back in?
As far as the surgery goes, I haven't heard too many good things about Chao. Hope he doesn't do the cutting.

I'm not a doom-and-gloomer, but I almost always place my wagers on the conservative side.
My wager stands at Week 5...at the soonest. It's also a way for me to tell myself that the Bolts
will be undefeated during that time!:)

I don't see a guy as injury prone as Mathews bouncing back this year from that injury.
Agree with the last sentence though--there's enough offense on the Bolts side this year that they'll still wrack up pts.

Ronnie Brown will step it up. Just watch, he'll produce big time. Keep in mind he was a top 5 back for 5 or so years... he knows how to run the ball.

This is another reason why I don't think that drafting a feature back high in the draft is worthwhile. If this were one of our RBBC rushers, it wouldn't even be news. A clavicle injury doesn't even indicate that he's injury prone, as it takes all of 6 pounds of force to break a clavicle, yet because it happened, we're now crushed at RB for the first 1-4 weeks of the season.

It's just stupid to invest such an important asset into a position with easily replaceable production that has such a high potential for injury, and now we're going to be running an RBBC anyway until he's able to return, while still having paid the opportunity cost to select him. Lose-lose.

Top 5 by which metric? I don't think that any of these stats appear to be top 5 under any metric.

he's done. His body can not withstand the impact or force to be healthy for a season. We are better off without him. IR him or trade him. Be done and move on.
