I know everyone is happy about the win, and it was a miraculous comeback by the team. Let's just forget the other 3 quarters happened. Ok?

BUT, Nick Hardwick was injured in the 3rd quarter, and what looked like a frightnening injury to the neck, he showed good signs when he moved his legs and arms.

Will this affect the team? or will Newberry fill ok?

    Any update? Hope he's ok.

    Newberry is one tough hombre. He'll be fine as a fill in/stop gap. Hardwick has had a poor year by his standards. I'd be ok with him sitting next week. In fact next week's O line should look like this;

    LT - McNeill
    LG - Dielman (xtra motivated)
    C - Newberry
RG - take ur pick as long as it is NOT Goff, I guess it should be Mruc but I'd be happy with Clary too
    RT - Shelton

I know I probably sound like a 'broken record' (all u under 25 won't have a clue what that means!!) but come on we gotta get Goff outta SD NOW. :icon_evil:

I thought we ran better when Newberry was in there earlier in the season.

    Hope Hardwick will be OK.

Agree, but Sheldon could take either OT spot and it would be an improvement. McNeill hasnt been worth a crap this year either.

    From NFL.com Blogs:

    Hardwick Leaves Game for Chargers

Chargers C Nick Hardwick suffered an apparent head or neck injury and was carted off the field (video) during the third quarter of the game against the Chiefs. Hardwick was injured while attempting to go low for a block on a short pass play and had his head and neck snapped to the side off the leg of a defender. He was down on the field for several minutes, but he was responsive to trainers and wasn’t immobilized before getting on the cart. Hardwick was replaced by backup Jeremy Newberry.

Two plays earlier, on the same drive, Chargers WR Chris Chambers also suffered what looked to be a head or neck injury when he was hit by two Chiefs defenders on a reception over the middle. Chambers’ injury didn’t appear serious, and he was able to leave the field under his own power.

With those 2 kinds of similar plays, it almost sounds like the Queefs were out to hurt people. They were both head and neck injuries.

That hit on Chambers should have been penalized, and I would be surprised if the guy that hit him is not fined. Totally defenseless, and the guy led with his helmet while leaving his feet.

I agree about Mc Neil but I'm not giving up on him. I give up on Clary.

After watching video of the play again, it appears Nick injured himself performing a good, classic cut block to clear a path for Hester.

Yeah, that's basically what happened. He was just short on the block, so he extended his head a little much and his neck was susceptible to injury while pushed out that far. I'm glad it's "just" a concussion though, as it could have possibly been much worse.

I'm really curious about Chambers though. I haven't heard anything, all I know is that he left the field on his own.

"Thanks" for posting that. I lost my online feed after the half. It was hard to imagine what the hit looked like.

I hope Nick will be ok.

I hope Nick is OK...and I'm glad the injury didn't appear to be anything really scary....BUT...

I have to say that I think this team is MUCH better off with Newberry at Center as long as his knees hold up. Nick can't hold up in the running game and Jeremy can hold his own against DT's without the same help Nick is in need of. It's no coincidence that the very next play after Nick leaves, we run for a 6 yard TD..in the toughest area of the field to run. It's like the running game opens right up. Imagine with Dielman in there next to a stronger center.

I think we need a better long term solution at Center.
