    By Scott Bair

SAN DIEGO ---- Luis Castillo used to think of himself as bait. The rookie defensive end saw his role in the Chargers' 3-4 defense as a decoy, someone to attract blockers and free up linebackers to stop the run or get to the quarterback. But as he gained experience working in the system, Castillo realized that he could make defensive end an impact position.

"It would be pretty hard to be a defensive end with 10 sacks playing in this system," said Castillo, who was the 28th overall draft pick out of Northwestern University. "But at the same time, I'm learning that there are ways to make things happen. I think that I've been more effective lately because I'm more comfortable in my role and more confident in my ability to get to the quarterback."</blockquote>
