You guys have gone crazy on the Hochuli thing.
What's weird is that Hochuli didn't affect the Chargers-Broncos outcome, but the refs in NO did affect that outcome. THAT is the hypocritical part. But I've gotta give Blew credit for somehow twisting that and suckering you in :D

Ah, I see where you're coming from.
So you can't admit that if Hochuli called that one right, game over.

I don't care if he winds up in Canton or hanging with Vinny Testaverde in the Hall of Overrated College QBs. He's still better than Jamarcus. He won rookie of the year. That alone trashes your prediction. C'mon, you can do it, nut up and admit you're wrong!:p

    Same to you.

If you accept that officiating affects the outcome of games, then you can't exclude Sunday night's debacle, just because you have a particular favorite.

I never said I excluded that possibility, just that it's not a 100% certainty like the Hochuli decision was.

It did change "the outcome of the game", as it unfolded differently than it would've if the play had been called correctly. That doesn't mean the Charger still couldn't have screwed up somehow. There is no such thing as 100% certainly as you suggest. I would never go that far...... I don't see why you fail to acknowledge that fact.

The PI that was not called when Floyd was being mugged changed the outcome of the game as well. If the call was made as it should've, the Chargers would've retained the ball and been awarded a 1st down, rather than it being a turnover. The game would've unfolded differently from that point. The odds of the Chargers winning would've gone up...... but there's still no 100% certainly.

We've already been over this. The chances of Rivers messing up a kneeldown are miniscule. So 99.99%, 100%, whatever.
A lot more had to happen in the Saints game than the refs calling a perfect game for the Bolts to win.

    How bout this one

I never denied any of what I wrote. I don't get what you're going on about, frankly. I just know from watching football over the years that there's no such thing as a 100% certainty. The odds of the Chargers winning either game would've been greatly improved if the refs called the games properly...... they did not. The idea that the review system wasn't checked before the game was another issue.

So you're admitting now that Hochuli's call was the deciding factor in that game?

I wrote that at the time, so I meant it then. It was quite some time ago, so I have some perspective now. The Hochuli call was a very important factor in the outcome of the game, but I don't know that I could say it was deciding in the way you do.

If the call had been made correctly, the Chargers chances of winning were extremely good. But, I also know that the Chargers could've still won the game even with the blown call. The defense still had an opportunity to stop Denver and win the game. Even after allowing the TD, they still had a chance to disrupt the 2-point conversion and win the game. We know how the game turned out, but if you were honest with yourself, you know that wasn't the only way it could've transpired.

To get your 100% certainty, you would have to have a game that was decided on the final play, like the Green Bay vs Seattle game was. The final call by the refs decided the outcome. The Hochuli game was not such a situation.

Well first, I totally agree that the Chargers D didn't do what they needed to after Hochuli call. They were pathetic.

Yes, GB@Sea of course was 100%. But Hochuli call if reversed was damn close. There was 1:17 left in the game. I'll give you that Rivers could have fumbled a kneeldown, but like I say, we're talking 99.99% chance of success instead of 100%. Whereas Saints game it's tough to say what the outcome would be. Not entirely confident Chargers would win in OT.

Do I think the Chargers would've won with that Hochuli call reversed?........ yes. Am I certain of that?....... no. ;)

My point was not just the final drive against the Saints was called incorrectly, but even before on Rivers INT. Floyd was being mugged, and PI should've been called. Therefore, no turnover, and a 1st down for the Chargers. That one call could've easily meant another score for the Chargers, rather than one for the Saints. That one play could've meant the Chargers were driving the ball for the win, rather than the tie at the end of the game. They may've only needed to get in fieldgoal range to win.

That's the nature of probability, the further back an event occurs, the more things afterward can change. Obviously, if Ingram hadn't been flagged for roughing the passer and the Chargers took a 17 point lead, the play calling would've been different afterward. Events would've unfolded differently, just as they would've if PI had been called and reversed the Rivers INT.
