There's also another way to put it ;)

Okay, enough of this silliness, I had meant to ask of Your Highness, what was the place that you had recommended iMac RAM from? Was it from Crucial? I think 32 GB is the max which I can go with my mid-2011 27" iMac, but I don't know whether to stay cheap and just go for the 16 GB, plus the 4 that came originally, although the asymmetrical RAM configuration may just be not a very smart think to do!

So............................ we get to keep Larry the Lemon because he doesn't automatically qualify for free agency because of his lack of games in his first 6 year contract.

Farg me, we can't even rid ourselves of this stinkburger because of a technicality !!! [IMG]

If it weren't for bad luck, we'd have NO luck at all.

1.5 Mill. on this absolute bust truely is sad............................has to be the worst 1st rd pick since Leaf, no doubt about it.

Yeah, Crucial is a good place to order from. They even have their handy program to plug in your make and model to make sure you're getting the right RAM for your computer. Prices are generally very competitive. You could max it out to 32 GB, but it's unlikely you'd even need that much for the type of stuff you're doing. There isn't an issue with having "unbalanced" sides any more. You could add the 16 GB to the two open slots to give you a total of 20 GB of RAM. It will work fine, because I did the same thing myself, before finally adding the full 32 GB when the price was cheap.

Thanks Blewy :) I'll be ordering 2 x 8G from Crucial and will retain my original Apple ones too, garnering me 20 Gigs, even though "unbalanced". When the prices drop further, I'll "future proof" this model by adding 2 more 8 GBs instead of the two Apple 2 GBs.

BTW, are you spying on me? How do you know what kinda stuff I'm doing?
I feel rather insecure out of a sudden :D

Well, very few people would really use 32 GB of RAM.... that is a lot of memory. You'd have to be running a bunch of programs at once to approach that kind of usage.

There's 18 hours difference between Cali and Geelong. Jack will make you some fresh homemade mayo if you contact him after he "gets off" FaceTime with Pumpy ;)

Ordering from Crucial = good idea. I use them exclusively for all my clients.

    But...
Mixing RAM sizes = generally not a good idea. Best to keep the same sizes in all slots. That extra 4GB won't make much of a difference in performance.

It's really not an issue anymore. I added 16 GB (2 x 8) to a 4 GB stock pair (4 slots total), and had no problems whatsoever. As long as they are all the same type of RAM, it's not a problem. That used to be a big no no, but times have changed. ;)

Speak for yourself there CBF .....

But "4 extra of anything" would make most women squeal like a pig .... (Not that I'd know anything about such a thing)

It may not be an issue, for you. But many of the motherboard manufacturers do not test their boards with mixed memory sizes. It's just not a generally "recommended" practice, even today. If it works, awesome.

Remember the "rams" I gave you back in day.

You had no issues with those either for memory.

It may still be a problem for some PC users, but from all I've read (and found in my own usage), it's not an issue for Macs at this stage.

Of course, when Blitzy gets enough funds, he'll undoubtedly get a matching 16 GB for the other two slots, because he's just that sort of guy. ;)
