So I'm watching this Thursday night football game, and I realize something. Does it annoy anyone else that Norv is finding so much success in Cleveland, with honestly a subpar team? Because it annoys the hell out of me!

Define success because the defense and specials team unit kept Cleveland in that game after Hoyer went out. Browns look terrible on offense and so predictable. They got some helmet to helmet penalties that bailed them out from time to time as well.

Winning = success. When a team wins, the whole team receives credit. As evidenced by everyone saying that Eli won two super bowls when really it was their defense.

Two wins doesn't necessarily make him successful. It's more like being a rider on a train...

Their opponents are a combined 5-8. They beat the Bills (2-3), the Vikings (1-3), and the Bengals (2-2).
They have a top 5 D and are 28th in offense.
Tell me again how Norv is the reason for their success.

I've a real soft spot for the Browns (since Schotty and Kosar departed), but there is no love lost between me and Norv.

I didn't say he's the reason, so I couldn't tell you again. I merely said that when a team wins, the whole team gets credit. Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl with 153 passing yards and 1 TD. But he still found success. We have the 32nd rated defense in the league, but if we win a ton of games and somehow win the SB, Pagano will have found success as well. That's all I'm saying.

Also, I was just saying that I'm annoyed, and amidst a beer buzz I posted about it. Quit attacking me.

Relax guy, I wasn't directly attacking you or I would have quoted your OP. You aren't the first person in the last few weeks to note Cleveland's success and associate Norv with it. The last sentence is just a jab at anyone who has tried to imply such, not necessarily you in particular.

But Eli Manning made clutch throws on offense to score the go ahead touchdowns. Brandon Weeden did nothing in this game to warrant any credit, or Norv's play calling. It was predictable, I think Travis Benjamin had 170 punt return yards through the 3rd quarter and the offense had 162 or something.

Norv runs what he ran here. Especially bad when you hand the ball off to a over weight Willis McGahee 26 times for 72 yards and a poor 2.8 YPC. He got lucky on a 3rd and 8, ran another predictable draw when they were up 3 or 6 I forgot.

But, Kiko Alonso is something else for Buffalo. I did want Te'o but my first choice was Alonso, he was so underrated and through 5 games he has 44 tackles, 4 INT's, 4 PD, 1 FF, and 1 sack.

I long ago gave up on the proposition that Norv would be judged by what he actually did.

Not at all because I know it won't last, at least on the offensive side. But I actually really like their defense, which may be good enough to carry them for a while.

Norv had some really good years with us. In all honesty, if AJ didn't take so many first round crap shots and focus on the OL in the draft, Norv might still be here. I mean he is one of the few Head Coaches to leave the Chargers with a winning record 59 wins and 43 losses (including playoffs).

He had the ire of the fan the last few seasons and deserved some of it, AJ deserved some that Norv got. For the first six years under Norv we were never ranked lower than 2nd in the division... That being said, it was time to make a change and I am liking a lot of what I see from TT and MM. I am just saying let us temper the hate with credit where it is due.

Norv must fail. If not, it ruins too many narratives.

The man couldn't do anything right: We weren't supposed to hire him because he was a "proven loser."
His .583 winning % here moved the goal posts...it's true that few head coaches win that much over
6 seasons, but it was Norv, so .583 was bad...despite the retirement, trades, etc. that degraded a once-strong roster.

Virtually all intelligent discussion re. the official Norv narrative ceased in 2005. Since then "Norv is bad" suffices.

When Norv has good results? Credit goes to someone else or "luck."
When Norv has bad results? It's all Norv...see, we told you he sucks!

That may not be rational, but it does perpetuate the common narrative. At least Norv is good at being a whipping boy.

Are we really going here guys? Past is the past, lets focus on the future.

But, what nobody has said, Norv Turner had one of the most talented rosters at least twice in his 6 years here and it resulted in loses in the AFC Championship games and also some terrible 1st round knock outs.

It's simple, as Norv went on here, his rosters depleted. But when they deplete your supposed to draft well to replace those players and both Norv and AJ did a terrible job of that.

It's also obvious, Norv never won THAT game that NEEDED to be won.

Well, it pretty much makes my point:

"Enough about this! But here's the anti-Norv side one more time..." :D

I'm not here to re-argue it (though it does give lil' Matty a chance to give me more red Xs )...just noting the lack of logic...

Norv is just one of those guys everyone loves to hate. Like the Raiders, Norv is also a universal catch all target. He didn't deplete the talent he only coached what AJ gave him, he did his job.

Your just not going to win an argument with a sentence that contain the words Norv Turner and success.

Your sentence is two words too long...

(since 2005 there's been virtually no rational treatment of the guy...I realized it long ago...but still have difficulty not mocking the irrationality)

He just failed in a vey similar scheme in Tampa, I'd be surprised if Lombardi shows any interest.
