Every legit 3-4 NT in this draft is going to be accused of the following; zero pass rush, inconsistent effort, lack of stamina making them 2 down defensive players, having more hunger for hamburgers than playing time

Terence Cody: comes from a big time program and got a huge taste of victory in the championship game. Played quite well in that game, Texas only averaged 3 yards per game and Cody dominated the Texas line on running plays. Might have been a different game if McCoy was in there, but Cody made his presence felt. Is probably the most athletic DT for his size in this draft, has had weight issues in the past

Dan Williams: doesn't have the size of Cody, still very athletic, has been listed as a DT that can play 3-4 or 4-3 (is that a bad thing for a prototypical NT?), had a monster year at Ten with 70 tackles (is this the only reason he is ahead of Cody?), might be the safer pick

Cam Thomas: the lesser known NT of the group, doesn't appear as nearly athletic as the other 2, has the same questions about motivation and pass rush

I don't know much about Cam Thomas but I like what I've seen from either one of Cody and Williams.

I have always been an advocate for Cody with the Chargers and I still believe he would be dominante for us...but if we took Dan Williams I would not be disappointed! I read some interviews and watched more footage of this guy and the more I see and hear the more I like! He would be GREAT for us too.

    Cody or Williams for me

I would sweeten the Suh deal with another 3rd round pick next year. I do not think we will have given up enough but I like the thinking. Try using the draft value point system to double check you are not screwing the pooch.

If we somehow managed to get these two dudes on defense -wow. We would need another nickle cover CB to replace Cason soon.

For the rest of the draft, I would be getting O-linemen. Right tackle and a swing O-tackle should be priorities. We are thin at TE cutting Manu.

THANKS for the positive feedback, the reason i didnt draft any line or TE's, is because next year in the 2011 draft we could draft nothing but good oline SO we'd need a RT, RG, C,, and get a better TE i think our TE spot is solid for this year, and yea for the suh pick we could give them our 1st our 3rd, and maybe buster davis :) lol but i think if we draft the players i mentioned above we could go undefeated and superbowl for 2 years straight lol

Consider what would happen to Rivers good leg if Marcus McNeil goes down. :icon_eek:

We have nothing to back up McNeil and that is why I say we need a good swing O-tackle as VITAL insurance.

The picks of the fat boys is not sexy or glamorous until I saw what you posted. I got a sports woodie thinking we could get two D-linemen who would start immediately.

haha true, but dont u think would could pick up some free agent o-line in free agency just for one year, cuz we could get some undrafted gems, this year, or just get alil depth to help till we get the Bad *** lineman next year, cuz the way i see it, we need d-line more this year, line backers and running backs,
if u like o line i say get THOMAS AUSTIN, CLEMSON- he will go undrafted but this guy is a stud, he shouldnt get drafted so he could be a gem

hate to break the love fest for d-lineman in this draft. But the chargers need another good cb. And definetly a rb. The rb will be picked with one of the two early picks. And the cb might be picked with the other. The league is a passing league. YOu have to have at least 3 good cb's. WE have two good cb's now. And it doesn't help that jammer is getting older. Though he has a couple years left.

I may be wrong. But A.j. tends to get the fast guys first.

Alot will depend on who is there when we pick. The first pick should tell us alot whats gonna happen the rest of the draft.

We need to give cason a chance, the league is a passing league but i think that jammer will be consistent and so will cason, i say 2011 we can nab a great corner

I do agree there too, and still think we can't pass up Kyle Wilson if he's there. What do you say we start a CB prospects thread though?

I see you're on forums.chargers.com too. I just signed up over there, seems to be a lot more action.

Foobs, in his latest iteration, (updated today), WalterFootball.com has us getting:

San Diego Chargers: Ryan Mathews, RB, Fresno State
San Diego Chargers: Terrence Cody, NT, Alabama
San Diego Chargers: Jerome Murphy, CB, South Florida
San Diego Chargers: Vince Oghobaase, DE/DT, Duke

Now wouldn't that be something? ;)

NT is the cornerstone of the 3-4 scheme, there is no way we don't take one at 28 or 40.
RB is a guy that takes the rock 20+ times a game. And Norv does try to keep the offense balanced.
What I'd like to see is us package Sproles with a late pick, getting us back into the 2nd round to draft a guy like Patrick Robinson.

And before people stomp on the idea of trading Sproles, I have a feeling there are going to be some holdouts (Merriman, VJack, Floyd, McNeil etc...) and we'll need the 7+ mil to get these guys locked up.

Holdouts or not, & I love Sprolesey, no frakking way is he worth $7+mil/yr. If AJ pays him that kind of money I'll expect to see the team in LA next year due to a terminal case of the dumbass.

First of all, lay off the crack.
Second, turn off the caps lock.
Third, There is no way in Madden that we pull off those trades. Not to mention Suh isn't a 3-4 NT he is a 3-4 DE and you want to sell the farm on him? Calm down crazy.

AJ loves his picks he believes that you build through the draft. That being said he isnt going to over pay next year for some players this year. Lets not even bring into the discussion that the other teams have to agree. I highly doubt Parcells gives up the 11th pick in the draft for Sproles much less more.

Look AJ is unpredictable but lets not jump off the deep end here.

If I'm AJ and I'm not I go Mathews 1st if he is there. If he isn't then you have options. If Mays is still there maybe go for him. Picking up an OL prospect isn't a bad idea either. In the second You get one of two players, Cody or Cam Thomas. I guess Cody over Thomas but I'm not sold on Cody yet. Thomas looks to be the more long term 3 down lineman Cody is the 2 down specialist. Either way its a win win.

RB is weak in this draft so you pick 2 RB later in the draft maybe Gerhart or Tate 3 and Karim Deji out of Southern Illinois (hes my sleeper look him up) in the 4th or 5th to help compete with the backs we have left (Sproles or otherwise). I'm still of the opinion we should trade with Dallas for Choice but that's just me.

Agreed if this were a capped season. But since it's not, I guess they'd rather pay him what they need to and keep him for one more year.

Oh I get it, its a wish list thing. Its like a "if I were playing Madden on easy mode with my 5 year old kid brother who knows nothing about football and I still had to press the accept button when he was reaching for his pop tart" trade post.

I get it now my bad.

no way the rams do that
Sproles isn't worth a high first round pick and a third round pick, maybe a second but most likely a third

    you got that right

Oh and you did say "I GOT A NEW MOCK DRAFT BUT IT INVOLVES A TRADE LET ME KNOW WHAT U THINK".

So I did. Some times people agree with your crazy threads sometimes you get lit up its part of the beauty of putting your thoughts out to the public.

If you know SUH is a DE then why would you draft a 3-4 end #1 in the draft? then pay him more than your NT? It doesnt make sense. 3-4 ends are not meant to be dominant, they are meant to suck up blockers.

the main reason i wanted Suh is for this reason, jamal is gone at NT, cesaire ir not the answer to RE, neither is OG or vaughn martin, so here was my thinking, if there was a way to put Suh on the opposeing end of Castillo and some how draft a dominant NT that would suck up double blocks, it would allow our 3 head monster "shaun phillips, shawne merriman, and larry english," to get the pressure on the qb if our line couldnt resulting in a probally top 10 defense, that would make our team so much better, dominant offence plus dominant defense, would equal SAN DIEGO CHARGERS SUPERBOWL CHAMPION

First of all your 3-4 ends dont need to be paid #1 draft pick money, thats why AJ is developing younger solid players in that capacity (Cesaire, Martin etc) Suh doesnt fit our structure for the price he would demand. Williams would be nice but Cody or Cam Thomas might be just as good, remember the draft is a crap shoot and sometimes your later round guys are better than the "cant miss" prospect.

I agree with you that if the Chargers get a solid line of big guys who can play the run and demand double teams then your 4 LBs can make plays. Thats the point of the 3-4 defense Big nastys clog the line while your athletic LB's are free to make plays rushing or falling back into coverage, its just much more flexible.

Bring your hopes doen a bit we have a player in Martin who is 300 pounds and would be great at one of the end positions with Castillo at the other. Cesaire is a great backup along with Johnson. All we need is a big guy say Cody or Thomas to clog the middle for us and with a healthy SM and SP along with the emergence of a new leader in Brandon Siler and good old Cooper solidified by Dobbins we are very close to having a top 10 defense already.

I read your link it is a site I follow anyway, and it does mention in there that he has a NT body type. What I like about him more than Cody, is his ability to go get a runner between the tackles. That is what JWall could do. It also talks about that he could use his hands better and has stamina issues like Cody but in the 4th round, getting a player that his the key guy in the rotation is not as much of a problem.

Also with Cody, if he flops at NT that is it. Joseph could play DE as a back-up plan.

I think we need to stay in reality here to some extent. The Rams first overall pick is worth 3000 points and oyu think they will trade that to us for 992 points, REALLY.

Then you think that Sproles will net the full first and third tender from the Dolphins, OK.

I love Suh, and Williams is the best NT sure thing in the draft but niether of these moves will EVER happen.

A reasonable comp package that IMO will work for Sproles is a 2nd and a 4th or a 2nd and flip flop in the 3rd so we can move up in the 3rd, that is in the ballpark.

Here is the link to the Draft Pick value chart so you can look it over,

We take McCourty or Wilson in 1, Ben Tate in 2 then THIS MAN in the 3rd..

Torrell Troup- University of Central Florida, 6'3'' 315

This guy doesn't get much exposure because of the School he attended, however he's a great character, high motor guy that wants to be a great NOSE TACKLE in the NFL. AJ has already fell in love with this kid. Listen to the radio interview, it's impressive. Also, if you can find the Shrine game anywhere, watch it and you will see this man completely dominate!
