I still think we need help at the RB position. If LT goes down, Sproles can't muster the load, we all know that. We need to be able to run the ball if LT isn't healthy. We just don't have anyone else on the depth chart I'm confident in. A legitimate RB who could step in if needed, on first and second down. Sproles is our "wildcard" so to speak, but I'm definitely worried if LT goes down again, this time perhaps in the regular season. :icon_shrug:

Anybody else think we need to pick up another solid back up RB???:icon_huh:

I'd use Tolbert. Keep Sproles in his role.

I believe the RB situation is fine, LT is still one of the best in the league, of course, if he goes down then it will make thing harder, but that can be said of most positions, what if Rivers, Jamal, VJ go down?

Hester, Sproles should be enough (if LT goes down) in this pass first offense

Didn't we just draft a guy in the fourth round named Gartrell Johnson & it just so happens he's a running back? He had a fairly productive college career. I would imagine he might be able to contribute in some way.

I still believe that, barring injury, L.T. is one of the top five backs in the league. Considering the state of his reworked contract, he's going to have to put up some reasonable numbers this season if he truly wants to stay in San Diego for the next three years.

Yes, if he goes down again this season our running game will suffer, since we don't have an experienced backup to take his place except for Sproles. But really, what team wouldn't have the same issues if their superstar back goes down? Look at what happened to the Eagles last season whenever Westbrook couldn't play. And who knows, maybe Hester, Tolbert, or the one of rookie RBs we drafted this year will show some promise.

Besides, for the past few years Norv has slowly transformed the team into a more pass-heavy offense, so having a heavy running game isn't nearly as important as when Marty was running the team. So in theory having a "RB situation" isn't that huge of a concern for this team at this moment just because of our style of offense right now.

I'm still not confident in our quarterback situation. What happens if Rivers, Volek, and Whitehurst go down? Man, we would be in a world of hurt. Anyone else out there feel the same?

    Yes he is

btw, I wonder if he still runs the 40 in under 4.2? Set a pro day 40 record of 4.13 :icon_eek:

Injury past and ball control issues is the main reason why this guy's reputation isnt up there with some of the other guys.

I think we will be fine; the team has transitioned to a more passing style attack so we will need to run the ball more to move the chains not necessarily to move all the way up the field. LT is going to prove who the best back in the leauge is once again; now if he gets hurt we can go to sproles for the screen game; and that new back gatrell has all the makings of a monster inside and bennet although older seems to know what he is doing. I have a pretty good feeling once hester is used more he will have no problem getting that done. Seems like we have all the tools we need...

You can relax. An injury-free 1400 yard season coming from LT. And yes he will be healthy for the playoffs.

I didn't know if Bennett was still with us, and I never heard of Johnson until the draft watching it on tv.

I was hoping we would have got D. Brown from UCONN.

I thought he was better than Moreno, or Wells.

Interesting, I like what I saw out of him too but he was first round quality, of course as Indy grabbed him for their first pick. We'll have to see but I don't think any of this year's running backs will make an immediate impact except maybe Chris Wells or Knowshon Moreno (McDaniels doesn't have a good QB and hinted the running attack will be more prevalent. But he still has Buckhalter and Arrington.)

I'm feelin' it too. Last year was an abberation. At the end of this season we saw flashes of the real LT. He's going to make the 'lost a step' crowd look really dumb.

Let's hope so. We didn't run the ball at all in the championship game against the Pats, and last year against the Steelers in the playoffs.

If teams know we have to pass, 'cause we can't run, they just sit back and wait. We need to be able to run against GOOD defenses.

If LT goes down, I am not confident in our running game as on right now.

I've been a little worried even if our guys stay healthy. I hope 1:51:24 PM returns to form, and I don't mean 08 form.

As much as I like to see offensive expolsion via the passing game this team needs to keep our d off the field and not get involved in shootouts to win a championship.

I can't wait to see our defense w english and merrimonster back, but I'm still gun shy at what we grew used to seeing last year.

Control the clock and we should be among the favorites to go all the way.
