    Observations from Day Two

Not a whole lot looks as it will once Friday comes or the season starts.
But one thing that is as close as it's going to get while rookies and select veterans are the only ones practicing is kickoff coverage.
The Chargers worked on that facet of special teams Tuesday, and among those on the unit were C.J. Spillman, Jyles Tucker, Antwan Applewhite, Donald Butler and Darrell Stuckey. All of them figure to be fixtures there once the season begins.

    • Stuckey, by the way, looks good. (Tempered enthusiasm since most of the offensive starters are not here.) The question is when he will get a look with the starters once training camp really starts.
    • This week is great for receiver Legedu Naanee to get back to work after missing the offseason rehabbing a foot injury that required surgery. He is showing the hands and running ability that made the Chargers so high on him and have them feeling OK about not having Vincent Jackson.
    • Ryon Bingham, who has played everywhere on the Chargers defensive line but missed all last season with a torn biceps, appears better for the rest he got. Already one of the team's beasts, he is bigger and appears particularly quick. He will need an exceptional training camp to make the team. The Chargers have 10 defensive linemen in camp, eight of whom have made significant contributions to the Chargers in past seasons and one of the others being fifth-round pick Cam Thomas.
    • He is covering people like seventh-round pick Dedrick Epps, who if all goes according to plan will not be on the roster for opening day, but inside linebacker Kevin Burnett looks really good. He can cover. Of course, he was exceptional last summer, too, and then struggled almost as soon as the season started.
    • The rookies and select vets practice once more Wednesday and will get Thursday off. The full squad will practice twice Friday
