Bottom line is we have no playmakers on defense.

The season isn't over...but it's not going to be fun to watch this team fumble **** their way though this season blowing 4th quarter leads.

No doubt that big drop would've been the difference.

But it doesn't excuse the absurd play-calling late in the 4th quarter...a roadmap to giving away a game...

No Fluker, no Rinehart, no Dunlap....it was like our entire 2012 line minus Vasquez, so I don't hold it against WizCoy to much.

Bottom line is Gilchrist had a chance to end the game and failed. The defense shouldn't be allowing 90+ yard drives to hacks like Locker.

This has nothing to do with the offense.

The fact Tennessee drove 94 yards with 2:12 with no timeouts is embarrassing. 3 starters out on defense still isn't an excuse.

We have no playmakers, but guys need to be difference makers at least. And Marcus Gilchrist had it, lost it.

Pagano has to do something with this defense regardless. Too early to wish for Rex Ryan for defensive coordinator?

The Chargers' defense always has a way of making mediocre quarterbacks look great.

Missed opportunities, missed tackles, missing blocks on ST, missing running game... there's more than enough blame to be placed on the field to go looking at the sidelines this early.

Again, obviously the Chargers win if Gilchrist hangs on. There's no arguing that.

But that is a bang-bang play...obviously Marcus only had a split second to respond to the bounce of the ball.

The play calling, however is much less forgivable: Everyone in the stadium knows the Chargers
want to run, and run out the clock. Rivers has been money on the short safe pass in 2013,
and the variety would've challenged the Titan defense. Instead, they stack the box
and McCoy/Whisenhunt just play right into into it...as if they're fine with punting
and trusting this D to make the stop.
It was dumb at the time, and it's dumb now.

That's why I call it the drunken blonde defense. Just make a decent pass and you'll score.

Pagano's 10 yard soft zone is what I blame on this one. That and number 17 running his mouth. Hey Rivers, nice job whining like a child out there. This makes twice this year you have left the field before the half was over. And nice job kicking the ball at the end the end of the game. Your looking like a real pro number 17. I loved how Woodhead and Mathews played. We just have no spark on D. It's not the worst D. They just need a something more.

So you never blamed Norv for poor execution on the field? Really?

There's plenty of blame on the field, but the sidelines were even worse...I was yelling
about it at the time, because it was so obviously a stupid plan. I don't enjoy being right, this time.

Sure I blamed Norv. Pathetic and predictable game management magnified poor on field execution.

In this case, I agreed with the game management. There is no way any defense should give up 94 yards in less than 2 minutes. It was the right call, just the wrong components.

You've got a right to your opinion. I said it was dumb at the time, and it absolutely proved out.
This is not a defense you can trust right now. As they proved.

Actually, I was talking about Rivers jawing off to the refs. Once that penalty went down, Chargers lost momentum. Bolts went from potentially being up by another score to kicking a field goal and keeping the Thumbtacks in the game.

The Oline was down to guys picked up from Golden Corral. That didn't work to protect Rivers last year, and at that juncture it probably would've led to a sack and fumble. As I said, trying to run the ball and the clock was the safest possible scenario.

You're right, the D can't be trusted. But to give up 94 yards in less than 2 minutes? That's not coaching, that's players.

I never complained about the coaching on the D side...Pag just doesn't have the horses...
holding Chris Johnson & Co. to 13 or 20 points should be enough to win.

Rivers' release has been so quick this year...and with the Titans only defending against the run,
a short, quick, safe pass had a better chance of succeeding than a run. McCoy/Whisenhunt just basically
through in the towel on trying to get a first down, pinning their hopes on a defense that was lucky
to have not given up a lot more points. the handwriting was on the wall (and I was reading it, out loud!).
I'm not surprised...but I see more blame in a series of dumb play calls than Gilchrist's one, momentary screw-up.

Hex, I was responding to posts about it being all on the players...
    which I obviously disputed...that's why I wasn't recounting Gilchrist's screw-up, etc.
