The posts on my news feed amount to "Cowboys beat themselves."

I don't have enough energy to respond to everyone about why they're so wrong. So I'm just copy/pasting Rivers' stats.

I believe I called the score perfectly this week on the podcast... at least the 14 (offensive) points scored by the Cowgirls. Do I win a prize????

The nice thing about Rivers' first quarter season, is that even his two INTs are
not classic, fvck-up decisions: one required an absolutely spectacular play by Pro Bowler Brian Cushing,
and today's was a pass mis-directed by him being hit.

Obviously they still count...but not all INTs are created equal
(I've always said it would be nice if stats de-emphasized end of half 'hail mary' passes...actually,
I think ESPN's relatively new "Total QBR" does weight stuff like that...but it doesn't seem to be getting much traction)

    That is truly shameless, Syd...
(nice try at bending it to fit, though!)

I got to see the last quarter, after the Denver/Philly game. Damned if they didn't look like professionals out there today---Philip looked GREAT and the D seemed much more aggressive than what I've seen so far this year.

God love 'em, this team has driven me nuts for > 40 years but I live and die with them every autumn. So nice to see something good happen so I can live with them a little longer. :D

So...wait...games don't HAVE to be decided in the final 15 seconds?

Well, why the Hell didn't someone tell us?!?!

    images-1.jpeg

BTW: No one gave McCoy & Company more crap than I did this week...
I was very frustrated, and horrified at the thought of losing more in that way.

But big time props this week. Minor quibbles, sure, but an A grade for coaching, for sure!

Well, if you count points scored by left-handers...and count as made
all field goals of over 36 yards, attempted by Aquarius kickers (yes, like Dan Bailey!)
and then sift out any 3rd quarter points made by guys whose numbers repeat (11, 22, 33, 44, etc.)
then, yes, Syd, you (almost) nailed it exactly! Congrats! Have a cold one on me!

This was a great win for the Chargers. The played well on both sides of the ball; but most of all THEY FINISHED THE GAME. So for that good job.

The Chargers are now at .500 which at this moment is a nice number to see (let's be honest)

This may be just me but if the Chargers could have finished all the other games would you all not agree that we could have been an undefeated team (4-0)

Definitely a great win worth celebrating :) when you know how to finish you can do it again, it's nice to see progress :)

COULD they be 4-0? Sure, but they didn't because they're not good enough to be 4-0. I'd love to see them ride this win and tear it up through the rest of the season but let's not get too excited about a single W. Felt like too many did after the Eagles game only to be brought back to earth in Tennessee. I'm cautiously optimistic until they can string together a few wins like this - then I'll be happy to be much less cautious and much more pure optimist ;)

One final point from me, just 'cause I haven' t heard anyone make it, yet:

During the Titan game, I didn't really feel like the Titans were effectively keeping
the Chargers O off the field (Titans only had a marginal advantage in time of possession)
...though it seemed like our offensive play count was a bit low.

I think the Chargers only ran about 51 plays last week, to the Titans' 66...which, in a game that close,
suggests that even a 50-50 split could've been very good news for the Chargers.

Today it was pretty much reversed: I think the Chargers ran 69 plays to Dallas' 53.
That means Philip Rivers--the 2nd highest rated QB in the league--got to throw
18 extra passes today!! (with, amazingly, no change in the # [27] of rushes!)
which translated to a mind-boggleing 220 more yards of passing offense (401 to 181 last week).

That the Dallas D could not get off the field today
    (Chargers t.o.p. = 34:03) was probably
the key to this 9-point win.

Watched the game from the Charger bar in NYC, and my God, the place ERUPTED when Gates scored on that catch and run. I damn near flipped the table in front of me in excitement haha.

Whatever the case may be, it was a great win for this team and hopefully gets some momentum going. We have the Raiders, Colts, Jaguars, and Skins coming up in the 2nd quarter of the season, all of which are definitely games that the Chargers can win if they continue the solid play they showcased yesterday!
