It seems like an eternity, but it's really just a few weeks until the NFL Draft and Organized Team Activities start up again in April. Then there's the fans and fanatics, much like the same people on this website. What do you do between now and the next season of football? Most of us have real jobs, making a living doing something, or pursuing hobbies. Is this the time that you unwind, forget about the past season, and do something fun? Do tell.

Piss and moan about having to wait for football. Celebrating the start of pre-season, then pissing and moaning that pre-season takes so long....

I'm seriously considering quitting my life as a fan. I've loved and followed the Chargers since I was 3 years old (a relative used to take me to all the games - first game I remember (well, not the actual game, just the fan fight after) was the Unclean Intentional Grounding by Kenny "The Skank" Stabler. My childhood memories are filled with memories of the Chargers and not my actual life.

But, damn, I just think, more and more, that, in certain ways, the games are fixed, and that the NFL is an evil monopoly sucking money out of cities. I'm positive nothing will be done about the Patriots cheating, at least nothing effective. They'll continue to cheat, as will the Broncos (does that team ever follow the salary cap?) And the Chargers will always allow the media to continue to put out the story that, unless San Diego builds a fancy football stadium, the Chargers will leave. Well, they'll allow that story until the Chargers actually do leave, which would make my decision to end my fandom easy.

The only reason I haven't yet quit as a fan is because I'd feel like a turncoat. I've convinced my entire family and a large majority of my friends to become hardcore Chargers fans. And, now what, am I to tell them it was all a mistake and that I'm dipping out on all the Sunday partying and complaining and, in recent years, Internet postings and texting? Should I tell my family and friends to stop making 99-percent of my holiday and birthday gifts some Chargers-related merchandise or paraphernalia? I don't know. That sounds like a lot of work.

San Diego Chargers insanity vs. real life. It's always been an easy call to choose the Chargers, but, now, I don't know. I'll skip the draft (I never watch that.) But, maybe this year, I won't even bother reading about who we picked.

I'll be watching my other football (soccer) team, watching my cricket team and going to sleep at a reasonable time on a Sunday instead of staying up all night to watch the Chargers and complain about being tired at work on Mondays.

(And wait impatiently for this year's schedule to be released).

This offseason? Wedding planning... and working 4 jobs :p

I'm sure I'll be watching the FA Combine, Rookie Combine, Draft, daily listening to sports talk, keeping up on twitter, etc... as per usual too when time allows.

I'll be catching some NASCAR racing on these long quiet Sunday afternoons. Can't get many Padres games back here and most of them don't start until after 10:00pm else I would.

Living in England we have the Premier League to watch, so that'll keep me entertained. I also love the draft, so looking forward to that. Not that long until the Dodgers start their season too. Lakers suck at the moment though, kinda tough to watch!

Haha I think I might bandwagon the Padres this year, alot of hype on them this year. Even though I barely understand baseball.

Ugh...the patriots winning the SB had be dodging ESPN for a few days. I think I'll just watch NBA and follow some team since the Lakers are garbage this year.

Hiking. Building up to an eventual hike from Yolla Bolly Middle-Eel Wilderness to Pacific Ocean (Bigfoot Trail). Enjoying some Northern California scenery. Giving my brain a rest from the Not-So Fun League.

Work. And then more work. Hockey games are fun. Next season San Diego will be getting a hockey team from the east coast. The Admirals from somewhere in Virginia will be making SD their new home. Yeah, there's baseball too even though I am an Angels fan.

I would be psyched if it wasn't the gatdamn D*cks affiliate. At least I'll be able to go see the Reign play (Kings affiliate), so having hockey back in SD is good.

One thing I miss about summer being back here is the Pads, loved going to night games or firing up the grill and watching on the tube. Many a great times had with friends, tilting back a few cold ones the smell of the grill and the Pads on the tube. Can't beat a San Diego summer evening JMHO.

I love football and baseball about evenly, for different reasons.

I love the nature of baseball that breeds more numbers-based analysis. I've always been one to like playing with numbers.

The games themselves are a different pace, which is what most football-only fans hate, but that doesn't bother me. I like watching the game play out. (Although I do with they'd put in a pitch clock for some of those pitchers that like to drag *** on the mound).

And attending games is fun. I typically plan my vacations around away games as I want to try and eventually hit a home game for every team.

And since I'm an equal fan of football and baseball February and March are really the only months that suck for me (I don't get into either sport's preseason that much).

March is the time of year I pretend to be a college basketball fan.

I liked baseball back in the day because it felt like I was watching some sort of American history. The way the game was played in the 80s and early 90s wasn't much different than the way it was described in "Casey at the Bat."

Now, with all the specialists, wild-card games, and Interleague play, baseball is a bore.

The new poem should be called "Casey Got Benched for a Lefty in the 6th."

    Anyway, go Padres.

Casey struck out with the game on the line. Maybe Mudville would have won had they replaced him with a lefty.

True, but nobody would remember it.

The greatest game I ever saw had Jack Morris pitching 10 innings to win the 7th game of the World Series. No way any pitcher is going to do that again.

Today's baseball fans love the Boch because he's a winner. It's true - he's obviously a great manager for his team. However, his style of counting pitches, although effective, is freaking boring. I don't want to see 5 pitchers combine for a complete game.

The hit that will be remembered for eternity is Bobby Thompson's "Shot Heard Round the World." A big hit in the final contest of a 3-game playoff. Today, that hit wouldn't matter because Thompson's team would have made the post season as a Wild Card anyway.

Back in the day when I cared for baseball, and I went to a game, unless there was an injury, I could generally count on seeing my favorite players Garry Templeton at short and Tony Gwynn in right. Once I started seeing backups getting starts for perfectly healthy stars, the game, to me, got boring.

Wait, I didn't even read the entire post before hitting reply because Bumgarner immediately came to mind after I read that. Did you really go on to talk about the Giants right after saying we won't ever see a pitcher throw a lot of innings in the World Series?

Madison Bumgarner threw 21 innings in 3 games in the World Series this year.

Just because they have different stratagies that you didn't grow up with doesn't mean it's not as fun to watch.

But I guess "fun" is subjective, so to each their own.
