Because our record is 2 and 2 and untill we hoist a Lombardi, all that means is that we have good numbers.

You can't give up yards on defense if the other team is scoring on punt and kickoff returns.
Our offense is running up yards since the other team has fewer drives based on point one above.

Consider this the glass half empty point of view. :icon_rofl:

Oh, I'm going to pay for this one...

 I agree that looks killer, and let's enjoy it for this week, but you know how it goes when we start reading too many newspaper clippings. We just have to keep playing the way we did Sunday, go into the Black Hole and DESTROY that crappy Faider team. I saw Cooper last night on "Football Night in America" on the local NBC affiliate (KNSD) and he sounded very confident the winning streak will continue against the Faiders. I don't see how they will stop us esp. with Rivers and Gates playing at such a high level. Add in Tolbert, a healthier Mathews and a Defense that's playing some of the best D I've seen in years and we should put up at least 40 on that Faider team. I predict a similar result against the Cards. Cards > Faiders so this could get ugly for them but don't take them lightly. JUST KILL THEM!

Yeah that was with Seau and that defense sucked even though it was Number 1. I could not believe we were 1. The rest of the league sucked worse.

ST Louis is 2-2 and tied for top of their division. Like us a few bad plays aside they could be undefeated. But yea That O and D rank I wonder how long we can hold onto? This is the year after all.

There is one stat that is important to me as a long time fan for our defense.

    POINTS ALLOWED.

    Next -

    Run defense

Well, if you don't count the return TDs, the Bolts D is #1 in scoring defense. And 7th in run defense (80 yards per game) ain't so bad either.

You can't just blindly look at the scoreboard because the defense isn't always responsible for the other team scoring points.

Examples include pick-6, fumble returned for TD, and (what's plagued us most this year) special teams giving up returns.

The same can be said regarding them being dead last or sucking at anything.

The first four games are in the books, the rest of the season has yet to be played.

take away all those runbacks and we would be in great shape, we would also be 4-0

I'm pretty sure if you polled every Chargers fan on the planet and asked them what really matters for the team the results would come back unanimously that the Lombardi is what matters.

I'm pretty sure if you polled every NFL fan on the planet and asked them what really matters for whatever team they root for the results would come back unanimously that the Lombardi is what matters.

I'm pretty sure if you polled every sports fan on the planet and asked them what really matters for whatever team(s) they root for the results would come back unanimously that the championship of the sport is what matters.

Where am I getting at with this? These utilitarian posts telling us that everything is meaningless because the Lombardi is the end goal are pretty much meaningless themselves because they're stating the obvious.

I don't think anybody here is looking at the team rankings and dictating it a successful season and throwing a big Chargers bash in celebration of being ranked high in offensive and defensive rankings in week 4.

It's simply nice to see because it means the offensive and defensive units are performing well to this point and (this part is key) it gives optimistic belief that these units are capable of carrying the Chargers through the rest of the season to the Lombardi.
