Sure looks like St. Louis Rams are shopping Pace, Holt

    By Jim Thomas
    St. Louis Post-Dispatch
    3/1/09

As the frantic first weekend of free agency winds down, all has been quiet with regards to Rams wide receiver Torry Holt and offensive tackle Orlando Pace.

General manager Billy Devaney indicated Friday that the Rams, in theory, had enough cap room to sign center Jason Brown, safety James Butler, and re-sign cornerback Ron Bartell without having to tap into the $14 million that would be created by releasing or trading Pace and Holt.

For now, Pace and Holt remain Rams, but league sources are convinced that the team is shopping both players as trade bait. Perhaps the thinking is that once the early buying spree calms down, there will be a market for Pace and Holt _ even if it’s a mid_ to late-round pick.

The club has been extremely tight-lipped on the futures of Holt and Pace. Then again, they’ve hardly said they fit into the team’s plans in 2009. At the NFL Scouting Combine, coach Steve Spagnuolo said only that the Rams would do what’s best for the team.

On Friday, Devaney said he didn’t know what would happen with Pace and Holt. Both are seven-time Pro Bowlers and veterans of two Super Bowls with the Rams.

I'd trade a 5th to the Rams for Pace. IMO, you could probably get two more solid seasons out of him.

Very similar to the Roman Oben trade where we gave up a 5th to land him.

If not for his contract, id take pace in a nanosecond, and if he was willing to restrusture, id still do it, but then again, if he was willing to do that, im sure the rams would be keeping him

Orlando Pace was a great player. One of the best Tackles in the game. But, he hasn't been that player since the 2006 season. His 2007 season was mired with injuries and he's never been the same since.

    No thanks.

I don't see this move happenin'...

...and given Pace's recent injuriy history and over-the-hillness... we're better off if it DOESN'T happen.

    Pace's ship has sailed.

He's had a great career, but his lack of durability combined with his age paint a bad picture. The likely pricetag is too high to consider when I think about who we have to sign over the next couple of years.

    I pass on this one.

    Orlando Pace Released

Wow... really must not have much left in the tank.

And while I am, likewise, not interested in rotting beef... I hope our guys at least take a look at him.

We need to bring him in and kick the tires on Pace and see if he has anything left in the tank. If healthy he might give us a RT for a couple of years.

Looks like Pace was released also for cap reasons, plus they signed a FA OL for 37 mil. They are in a youth movement and are cutting hi cap value players.

The 33-year-old Pace was the first overall pick of the 1997 draft. The move cleared $6 million in cap space for the Rams, who were 2-14 last season.

I didn't see many games, but Bulger was sacked 38 times.
