Osgood wants to be a receiver too

Kassim Osgood loves San Diego and loves the Chargers. San Diego and the Chargers love Osgood back.
Osgood, at his third Pro Bowl in three years as the AFC's Special Teamer, is popular in the community. The San Diego State alum loves Southern California. He is also one of general manager A.J. Smith's favorite players. The Chargers would love to have him back and, according to Osgood, have told him so.
But Osgood, an unrestricted free agent, wants to be a receiver. And actions speak louder than words.
Osgood has over the past five seasons caught just five passes, including one in the past two.
"I'm just waiting for someone to say, 'Let's maximize our potential out of this guy rather than just get one thing,' " Osgood said today. "I want to contribute in all ways, shapes and forms."
Osgood voiced his love for San Diego and desire to remain with the Chargers. But asked if he would choose another team that promised him he could play receiver, he said, "I'm always going to go for more work."

Nothing wrong with wanting to be a WR. If a team would give him that and the Chargers wont, I can understand him making the move.

Personally I like Osgood. He does what he is asked to do and does it well, as the three pro bowl trips indicate. I think he could actually make a good third down or possession receiver, but there are a lot of talented receivers on the team now, not like it was not so long ago.

I hope he stays but won't blame him one bit for leaving if he's offered a bigger role and more dough somewhere else.

Either way it's been a joy to watch this dude be a part of this city and fanbase all these years. There is none better on the team when it comes to giving back to the fans.

I think he could see an increased roll especially if Jackson and his immaturity end up on the next Amtrak out of town.

I could also see our run of 4 straight AFC West division titles coming to an end if this turn of events takes place.

WHo would win? THe Faders? Chiefs are one of worst teams in league. THe broncos could start 10-0 and still fail next year. Watch they will open 12-0 and we'll still win the division. Thats how much the donkeys suck...

Well I am sitting here watching the AFC pro bowl practice and KO is wearing a Patriots hat. He is the only one wearing a team hat (everyone else is wearing generic pro bowl caps). Is he trying to send a message?

I don't know what he is thinking. Maybe he is just stirring up crap and it's all in fun? I just thought it was odd that nobody else is wearing anything today with any team logos except him. He walked up behind Deion with the hat on playing to the camera. Just kind of weird IMO...

What's this? Osgood is using an NFL hat to make a statement about pending contract talks?

AJ needs to have a team rule for all new contracts, NO NFL HATS!!! Are these guys 16 years old? Grow up

The only reason I was watching was because Norv is the Coach and they were talking about him and the Chargers.

I can't even begin to count the number of times I've seen Osgood down a Mike Scifres' punt inside the opponent's 10-yard line, or blow up a kick returner. There's a reason he makes the Pro Bowl year after year. If he goes, the loss will be felt...but I wish him the best. Kassim Osgood has been a "money" player...it doesn't get any better than that.

Norv played Osgood at WR in the Pro Bowl, just like he did in the 2007 Pro Bowl when he coached that.

The Chargers love KO and want to keep him but who do you get rid of/demote to give KO the snaps at WR? It's a numbers game... glad he got a chance to perform tho in front of other teams and I hope he has options. Either here or elsewhere... he's earned the opportunity.

Who knows, maybe they finally let go of Buster (maybe send him and Cro somewhere as a package deal?) but I doubt it... if any WRs go I'd bet it's M80 to a high bidder. I don't think VJ goes anywhere, but he will be suspended 1-4 games next year at the start... so maybe that gives us an opening to use KO. I'll hold out hope but he's gonna be a WR somehwere in 2010...
