Going for it on 4th down on your own 30 against Peyton Manning's team only up by 6?

Not even Norval Eugene Turner would be dumb enough to make that kind of decision.

    Belichick

    Nice decision coach.

    WTF?

I guess that's what happens when you start believing that genius label people stick you with. As much as I don't like the Colts, it's always nice to see the Pats lose.

Plenty of guns.....not so many knives.

I threw my hat at the couch on the other side of the room. That was the only casualty of the game.

Not happy, but I don't run the team.

I liked the aggressive call but not the result.

What I hated was that pass interference call on the td drive previous.

What are you going to do?:icon_shrug:

This is why fans should not be coaches. The "aggressive call" was a stupid call. Punt the ball and give your defense a chance to show its mettle. All that call did was tell the defense that their coach did not have confidence in them to stop the Colts. And after that "vote of confidence," the D promptly went out and laid an egg. Big shock.

Here's what I thought the Pats were going to do, and it probably would have worked and won the game for B&B:

1.) Go for it on 4th and 2.

2.) You don't make it. You give it back to Peyton with 2 minutes to play.

3.) Let the Colts score their TD. That's right. Instead of tackling Addai at the 1, let him run in.

4.) You get the ball back with 1:10 to play, down by a point.

5.) Drive to the Indy 30 yard line and kick a game-winning FG with a few seconds to play.

    Agree 100%.

Question for everyone else...why didn't NE send out the punting unit and then run a (small) trick play? Then the chances of succeeding with the 4th down conversion would have been far higher in my opinion.

By telling Indy they were going for it they lost the element of surprise that they otherwise could have got.

Disclaimer: I have a fake FG/punt fetish so sue me :D

A fake punt probably would of been more effective. I doubt the Colts would think the Pats would run a fake punt there.

Although IMO the Pats should of punted the ball. I know the Colts were rolling but you have to have some faith that your defense can stop a 70 yard drive.

The last time the Colts did that to the Patriots was in the 2006 playoffs...the Patriots came back with a 16-0 season.....now the Colts did it again....how will the Patriots recover from such an ignominious loss?...worst play calling yet from Belichick.

Exactly. Belicheat's arrogance and cockiness bit him in the ***.

The play before that Brady almost had a INT which would have been returned EASILY for a TD, on the same side of the field, almost the same exact play. I picked the Gay Pats in my football pool, but I was rooting for the Colts all the way. HA !!

    PATRIOTS CHOCKED !!!:icon_rofl:

Bellicheat spits on all of you! You just don’t understand greatness! A bunch of NFL Infidels!

Since Bellicheat called it, by definition it is the correct call! DUH!

What the “H. E. double Hockey sticks” is going on in the NFL and with the low class fan base? If Bellicheat says it is so, THEN IT IS SO! Get with the program folks!

I don't know if it was a good call or not, but, if Faulk caches that cleanly the pats get the first down and Bellichek is a genuius with balls the size of basketballs.

I can see what he was thinking :

    A) gain 2 yards or hold the colts for 30 yards

    or

    B) hold the colts for 60-70 yards

the odds of A happening might be better than B :icon_shrug:

What would you guys be saying if they had made that first down, and they continued on driving down the field. Would you still be calling him a moron?

    Arrogance:

–noun; offensive display of superiority or self-importance; overbearing pride.

    Confidence:

–noun; full trust; belief in the powers, trustworthiness, or reliability of a person or thing.

It's a fine line that separates arrogance from confidence. People point to Belichick's apparent lack of confidence in his defense, while completely overlooking his demonstrated confidence in his offense.

Belichick has always been, and will always be, a risk taker. He gets paid to make tough decisions, good, bad or indifferent. He made a choice that he'll have to shoulder the burden of for years to come.

Of course Bill has all the confidence in the world in Brady. He should.

    But...

Trent Dilfer just said it perfectly...

It was the 28 yard line!! The freaking 28 yard line!!

What Belichick wanted more than anything, was to humiliate the Colts in their house. He still thinks of them as his biitch.

    Peyton just fu.cked him... again.

How do we know it was the wrong decision? Matt Millen just said it was the right one. that's how.

A man vilified for his lack of personality and emotion is now accused of a crime of passion........truly ironic......

Embarrassing the Colts had nothing to do with it.....winning the game had everything to do with it.

Belichick simply wants to win. He made the choice he believed was the best for his team. It didn't work.

Right. We get that. Doesn't mean it wasn't a stupid move.

It was a stupid move. He did it and because he's "Bill Belichick" he's getting a pass?

And I didn't say embarrass. I said humiliate.

Hey look even Patriot fans come here. I have to say, this is a forum full of cool people, one of the best boards I've seen.

BeerGuy, I'm an Eagle's fan and although I don't agree with your coach's decision, I'd trade our coach in for someone with half of Bill's nut sacks any day. Our coach won't even go for it on his opponent's 6 inch line, down by 14. I've never seen anything quite like this one though. Your own 28? Why not make Manning go 70 yards. They had already picked him off twice and made them punt like 5 times. Manning isn't invincible. The Colts last TD I believe was aided by a questionable penalty, so they could have been stopped.

I don't like the Patriots but in all honesty, I felt bad for their defensive players. It may have been a vote of confidence for their offense but it had to blow for the defensive guys

Right...and Deon Sanders called it "swagger" last night on NFL Network.

Please. Going for it at that end of the field is MORONIC. Make it or not, it's still DUMB.

You know, most guys are dumb enough to tug on Superman's cape that first time. Thing is, the look on Bellicheat's face would have been the same even if he'd gotten the first down. Arrogance has been used a lot here, today. Perfectly said, folks.

Better question, what would you guys say if Norv made that call and the Chargers lost because of it?

I doubt we'd see so many defenders.
