Patrick Crayton has a dislocated wrist

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on November 23, 2010, 10:28 AM EST
Malcom Floyd returned at wide receiver for the Chargers Monday night, just in time for San Diego to lose another receiver.

Patrick Crayton has a disclocated wrist, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. He’ll undergo an MRI on Tuesday to determine whether he can play again this year.

With Legedu Naanee hurt for much of the year and Vincent Jackson yet to play a game, Crayton turned out to be a key pickup for the Chargers. They acquired him for a seventh-round pick from Dallas and he’s responded with 514 yards and a 18.4 yards-per-catch average.

Jackson will make his season debut Sunday night against the Colts; Antonio Gates‘ status is uncertain.

Wow.. devastated for Paddy Crayton. He's having a 'McCardell' like impact only better. Naanee better get himself healthy already. Looking forward to VJ's return also.

Not sure why he lunged for the goal line in the fashion he did. Seems he could have just dove low to cross the goal line.

Hope he heals up in 3 or 4 weeks. I really like having that guy there.

Well, this sucks. Last player I know of to have a dislocated wrist was Brian Urlacher of the Bears last season and he went on IR. :(

I would not be surprised with all these weapons coming back, we pee down our legs against the Colts.

He's probably going to be brought back, Crayton was a hell of a pick up by AJ and played like crazy. He'd be a great third WR.

I'm expecting VJ to play HUGE his first game back. I'm really hoping he doesnt miss a stride and dominates.

I think Norv will have to be creative to get away from that front pass rush. We've done it in the past with screens to sproles and legs, then the running game opens up. Tolbert will need to be a beast again.

Crayton reminds me of a throw back player, he gets in your face and gives it his all. I still think if there is any chance to play he will, he's just that kind of dude.

I love what PC brings to this team, he has been a great addition. I hope he can play again this season, and I hope he remains a Charger the rest of his career.

Tape it up-good point-ludes-not. He'll be back and I'm sure the team will sign him in the future. Meanwhile we are getting WR's healthy.

    Patrick Crayton undergoes surgery

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on November 24, 2010, 8:52 PM EST

Early in the week, we passed along a report that said Patrick Crayton would need to avoid surgery on his dislocated wrist to return to play this season.

Well, he underwent surgery. But the Chargers are hopeful he will return with a few weeks left in the season.

Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports Crayton could return as early as December 16.

He will miss this week, but it sounds likely the team will have wide receivers Malcom Floyd and Legedu Naanee available, ready to join Vincent Jackson for the first time all season. Antonio Gates also says he’ll try to practice this week.

Urlacher broke his wrist, which I imagine is much worse than a dislocation. At least I hope it is, because Crayton has been very good.

Just a thought. Could Floyd or Tutu study the same routes that Gates normally runs and play in his place? Of course, this scenario would only be played out if Gates couldn't play, Wilson couldn't play, and if we didn't have a another pass-catching TE. Not to take anything away from McMichael, his circus catch last week was awesome. But it would be scary, nothing but 6'5" receivers to cover. Again, just a thought...

You know I was thinking today about VJ going to TE until Gates was healthy.

I concur with the above statement, VJ or Floyd, based on their style of physical play. And maybe throw Naanee into the slot a la Welker and we would have some kind of high-flying air corps.

Well if he is healthy, and im sure he was capable of playing in our last game and im sure he is healthy now whats wrong with lettin Legs take the sub TE spot? He did come to the team as a HB/TE. He played bout every position in college like Weddle.

If I was an offensive coordinator, (which I am not) I would probably be thinking why not?? Again, I don't think this situation has come up until now because of all of the injuries, but it's like the perfect storm, all things (healthy players returning) coming together at the same time. Those guys over in Indyanapples are probably getting a little nervous, and they know a lightning storm is coming and there's nothing that they can do to stop it.

I know I shouldn't think like this but Crayton reminds me of one Charlie Joiner. He makes very few mistakes and when he does get the ball he makes it count. I hope he can stick around for awhile just like Joiner did.
