Patriots release veteran linebacker ColvinAssociated Press
Updated: February 26, 2008, 5:49 PM EST 6 comments RSS digg blog email print FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) - The New England Patriots have released linebacker Rosevelt Colvin, who was a member of two Super Bowl winning teams but also missed significant time with injuries.

Colvin signed with the Patriots as an unrestricted free agent in March 2003.

In his first season in New England, he started the first two games before suffering a season-ending hip injury at Philadelphia on Sept. 14.

He played in the first 11 games last season before missing the remainder of the season and the playoffs with a foot injury suffered Nov. 25.

He has 414 tackles, 52.5 sacks, three interceptions, 13 forced fumbles and nine fumble recoveries in nine seasons with the Patriots and Bears.

The Patriots on Tuesday also released linebacker Oscar Lua, the team's second-round draft pick in 2007 who missed the entire season with a knee injury.

Also interesting that the Pats released last year's second-round pick.

That's on top of a disappointing season by their first-rounder Meriweather.

If they keep drafting like this, these guys could go downhill in a hurry, their window of Super Bowl contention has already started to close.

Chad Jackson was a bust if I ever saw one.
Meriweather was still sitting behind Wilson and Harrison, its not shocking that he didnt get much time.

I just read the espn article listing the latest cuts and thought the same thing about Indy.

The Colts cleared close to $8 million in cap room Wednesday by releasing defensive tackle Anthony "Booger" McFarland and middle linebacker Rob Morris.

Both players, who entered last year's training camp as starters, spent much of the season on injured reserve. Morris participated in only 57 plays on the Colts defense last year. McFarland missed the entire season.

They were released after they both failed physicals.

Morris is a former No. 1 choice of the Colts who was an excellent run-stopper. During the Colts Super Bowl year in 2006, he moved to strong-side linebacker late in the year and helped improve the team's run defense with his tackling ability and toughness.

McFarland came to the Colts in a trade with the Tampa Bay Bucs in 2006 after Corey Simon was hurt. The Colts gave up a 2007 second-round choice to acquire him. He missed last season with a torn patella tendon.
