A team source told ESPN.com on Saturday that the Patriots plan to sign Miami wide receiver Wes Welker, a three-year veteran and an explosive all-around performer, to a restricted free agent offer sheet in an attempt to pirate him away from the Dolphins.

The Dolphins earlier this week made Welker a qualifying offer of $1.3 million.

Welker and I think Lemon as well were tendered 2nd round offers.

I liked both of those dudes and was bummed to see them go.

I would MUCH rather be paying Welker than Sproles.

I am not sure why everyone is down on Sproles. The kid has a killer return yardage average and consistantly gave our O a short field to work with.

    Whats not to like?

Sproles sucks, and depending on how the draft goes, I think he is going to be hard pressed to make the roster.

I disagree. He had some problems fielding punts but was nails on Kickoffs.

On offense the only time he had the ball was in between the tackles which is completely stupid for a guy of his size and skills.

Next season we will get him on the edge and AJ will look like a genius once again.

The fact that the only thing that he can do is return kickoffs. That is a waste of a roster spot. If he could return punts as well, then I might see the light. But the guy looks like a deer in headlights on punt returns.

We have too much talent to waste a roster spot on a guy whose only job is kickoff returns. It would be on par with when we had Wide Righty as the designated kicker offer to go with our FG kicker Christie. Waste of a roster spot.

Punt returning can be learned. Given his ability on Kick off returns I have no doubts he can do it.

You are neglecting the fact that as of right now the number two RB is named Turner. I'm not sure how many #3 RB's see PT, much less have a cornucopia of plays drawn up for them.

Michael Turner was easily an equal as a kickoff returner. If we keep him, Sproles is toast. Even if we trade him, I see AJ drafting someone with the intent of seeing them return kicks.

Either way, I think that Sproles is a cut.

He has fear in his heart on punts. That can't be learned.

I would be willing to make a gentleman's wager that Sproles doesn't make the roster.

this is based off his rookie year doing something he's never done before

and if you're not afraid the first time you field a punt with 10 guys wanting to run you over, i don't know when you're ever going to be afraid

its too early to tell, that's all
