    per espn.
not sure I like it. Expensive contract to have to write.
What I do like about it, though, is we'll have Julius Peppers rushing the passer! Pick up where Vrab's left off. That'll make our dbackfield a little better!

bummer :( I know we wouldn't have picked him up but I'd prefer he stay in the NFC.

He sais he wants to play for a 3-4 defense as an outside LB. Has he ever done so in the past? Or is it just some sort of experiment that he wants to try?

Not sure if it's a great move. He's going to want a lot, and I mean a LOT, of money. But for that, he can pretty much only be used as a pass-rush specialist. Don't expect him to be able to drop back into coverage much. Plus how well he'll do at stopping the run, from a standing position, is anyone's guess.

Also, while he had 14 sacks this year, the year before that he had only 2.5. So who knows what they're going to get.

I don't know whay a proven pro bowl DE would want to experiment as an outside linebacker in this point in his career and I think all GMs that consider this move should wonder the same thing because they shouldn't dump piles of cash on him to see if he can play linebacker. His contract should absolutely have provisions to have him in as a DE if that is best for the team.

There are two reasons why I think he wants to be a 3-4 OLB. First, he wants out of Carolina, and by saying this he's trying to make it more clear that he doesn't want to play there anymore.

Second, I think he wants to increase his sack stats, and he thinks that by being a 3-4 OLB, he can get more sacks.

He would not do well as a DE in a 3-4, because they aren't supposed to be pass-rushers, they are supposed to occupy blockers clog things up, and allow the linebackers to make the plays. And one thing that Peppers certainly does NOT want is to allow others to make plays.

Peppers is also very long in the torso which is not good for a OLB. I don't know why, I just read that on ESPN I think, but I think it's probably for leverage. Also as pointed out, he's pretty bad at dropping back into coverage which a GOOD OLB must do. We'll see if he can pull it off.

I think it's BS though if he gets traded for a 2nd round draft pick, which is WAY below his market value. That would be the second suspect transaction this offseason that Belichick will have pulled off. I'm not calling conspiracy, but it's suspect for sure.

That would suck. It's not like trading the second rounder would even hurt them, since they still would have their second pick, and OUR second pick. They're in a better position then we are in the draft, and they're taking bigger steps to improve their team in free agency. Getting Sheppard was a great move, getting Peppers would be another great move.

The Patriots have made some substantial movement toward shoring up many of the older spots in the defense. Peppers is HUGE!!!

I do not like this move at all, because it makes the Pats even better, and that sucks.

Hate them all you want, but the Patriots sure do know how to horde talent and build a stong team.

HOpefully this is a wake up call for A.j. to really get serious about improving our defense. Rivera will help big time. But A.j. has to give Rivera all the players he needs to improve the defense.

The chargers offense has more weapons by far than any other team. But we do need to make the o-line as solid as it can be.

The key to next year is improving the defense so its good to really good. Pats and the stealers are gonna be really good. And the chefs are improving a bunch as well.

The Patriots still have three draft picks out of the first 58...there could be some serious dealing for those spots.

Adam Shefter reporting on Sirius NFL Radio that the trade is not going to happen.

No link... just listened to it earlier.

So now you've got Carucci saying it's on, Shefter saying it's off...

    ...stay tuned.
